Series IV: Chinese Embassy, Paris and Vichy, France

Series consists of primarily correspondence, memoranda, embassy records, speeches, notes of conversation and other related documents of Wellington Koo as the Ambassador to France and the Chinese Delegate to the League of Nations, dating from 1932 to 1941. Materials in the series emphasize on the political, social, and economic condition in China and the world before and during the Sino-Japanese War and World War II. The files also cover China's foreign relations with other countries and international relations prior to World War II. Files may also contain materials related to Series III: League of Nations, 1929-1940.

Subseries IV.1: Embassy Files, 1932-1941

Subseries comprises primarily embassy records related to personnel, accounts, payrolls, receipts, passports and visas, as well as files related to the oversea affairs of Chinese nationals, dating from 1932 to 1941. Some of the embassy files also contain information relating to the conflicts and issues in Europe at the time such as the refugee situation as the Embassy was impacted by the political situation in the region.

Subseries IV.5: Correspondence, 1932-1941

Subseries comprises incoming and outgoing letters and telegrams, dating from 1932 to 1941. The letters contain personal and embassy matters, mostly to Koo, but also other embassy officials such as C.K. Sze (施肇夔; 字德潜) and K.H. Fu (傅冠雄, 字筱峯). The personal correspondence also include resume sent to Koo seeking employment in oversea offices and other personal matters. The letters between 1940 and 1941 focus on the war situation in Europe during the embassy's relocation from Paris to Vichy in 1940 after Paris was occupied by Nazi Germany. The telegrams compose of telegraphic communication exchanged between Koo as the Ambassador to France and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as other important government officials.
