The collection chiefly concerns American claims against Soviet Russia, and the currency of Estonia and other successor states. The collection contains a 1928 document signed by George F. Kennan. The manuscripts include essays and memoranda concerning currency exchange, tax laws and a number of American court cases involving financial affairs immediately after the 1917 revolution. There are subject files relating to diplomatic claims concerning debts, and the Soviet-Estonian peace conference of 1920. Among the printed materials are clippings and various American statutes and laws.

Correspondence, speeches, speech materials, news clippings, subject files, audio and videotapes relating to the professional activity of Arthur Levitt, Jr. The papers and audiovisual material deal primarily with his tenure as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (1993-2001), but also contain earlier records, including some materials relating to Levitt's school years at the Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School and at Williams College, and his work at Hayden Stone, the American Stock Exchange, and the New York Economic Development Corporation, and his advocacy of the National Endowment of the Arts during the 1991-1992 funding controversy. These papers also contain materials relating to his father, Arthur Levitt, Sr., who served for 24 years as New York State Comptroller.

Office files of two former heads of the Columbia University Libraries' Reference Department. The files of Isadore Mudge, 1930-1937, 1940, and those of Constance M. Winchell, 1940-1945 and 1947-1959. The files are chiefly inter-office memoranda with other librarians and administrative memoranda for the department. There is some correspondence. Also, a file of Reference Department annual reports, 1904-1940.

Minutes, correspondence, annual reports, press releases, financial records, photographs, memorabilia, audiovisual, digital and printed materials document the philanthropic activities and administration of the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The collection is actively growing, primarily through regular document transfers from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Andrew Carnegie's biographical information and personal philanthropic activity can be found in Series VII. In addition, his pre-1911 gifts, most notably his donations for libraries and church organs, can be found on microfilm (Series II), in the Home Trust Company Records (VI.A), and Financial Record Books (I.C.1). Grant files (Series III.A), which comprise the bulk of the collection) provide information on projects and institutions founded, endowed or supported by the Corporation. The Special Initiatives series (Series IV) contains the records of task forces, commissions and councils, formed by the Corporation mostly during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s to address specific issues. The Corporation's records include those of other Carnegie philanthropic organizations (Series VI), including the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Home Trust Company, both of which shared staff, officers, and office space with the Corporation for a period of time.

Select files pre-date the firm's establishment because some clients of Harold Matson Company, Inc. became clients of Don Congdon Associates, Inc. The cataloged correspondence include: Ray Bradbury, Lillian Hellman, William Manchester, William Shirer, William Styron, and Francois Truffaut.

They include material dating from the decades prior to the establishment of the settlement which shed light on the philosophy and motivation of its founders, and offer a unique view of the first wave of the settlement house movement in America. The records document social conditions, demographic change, political activity and philanthropy in New York City. Addresses by East Side House founder Everett P. Wheeler, included in Series I, document his family history and career as a lawyer and civic reformer prior to the founding of East Side House. Wheeler's correspondence details his role in establishing the settlement and managing it during its first decades.

Personal and professional papers of Stedman, including correspondence, letter books, diaries, poetry manuscripts, scrapbooks, photographs, and genealogical materials for the Stedman and Dodge families. Correspondence and manuscripts of his mother, Elizabeth Clementine Dodge Stedman Kinney (1810-1889), poet and diarist, and of his granddaughter, Laura Stedman Gould (1881-1941), author and editor. Also, editions of Stedman's LIBRARY OF AMERICAN LITERATURE including printed materials relating to the marketing; and an album of Civil War photographs by Mathew Brady, inscribed by the photographer to Laura H.W. Professional and personal files including Armstrong's correspondence with professional associations, other engineers, and friends, his research notes, circuit diagrams, lectures, articles, legal papers, and other related materials. Of his many inventions and developments, the most important are: 1) the regenerative or feedback circuit, 1912, the first amplified radio reception, 2) the superheterodyne circuit, 1918, the basis of modern radio and radar, 3) superregeneration, 1922, a very simple, high-power receiver now used in emergency mobile service, and 4) frequency modulation - FM, 1933, static-free radio reception of high fidelity. More than half the files concern his many lawsuits, primarily with Radio Corporation of America, over infringement of the Armstrong patents. Litigation continued until 1967. Other files deal with his work in the Marcellus Hartley Research Laboratory at Columbia University, 1913-1935, and with the American Expeditionary Forces in France during World War I, his Air Force contracts for communications development, Army research during World War II, the Radio Club of America, the Institute of Radio Engineers, FM development at his radio station at Alpine, N.J., the use of FM in television, his involvement in Federal Communications Commission hearings and legislation, and his work with the Zenith Radio Corporation. Ther collection contains typescript manuscripts with handwritten corrections of Cantor's novels"Enemy in the Mirror" (N.Y.: Crown Books, 1977) and "Love Letters" (N.Y.: Crown Books, 1980); printed works composed by Gallery 33 of the Composing Room, which Cantor headed from 196l to 1971; and articles by Cantor from various magazines, including "Esquire" and "Coronet". Also included are typescript manuscripts of "The Rite" (N.Y.: Zebra Books, 1979) and "The Nest" (N.Y.: Zebra Books, 1980), novels written by Cantor under the pseudonym Gregory A. Douglas. Series II of the collection contains 59 bound volumes of publications, edited by Cantor, from the "Research Institute of America", a New York based organization devoted to economic affairs

Collection includes documents granting Dlotovskiĭ promotions and decorations, some signed by Nicholas I, Alexander II, and Alexander II's Minister of War, Dmitriĭ A. Mili︠u︡tin. Also included are a history of the Cuirassier regiment by Dlotovskiĭ, and a memorandum he wrote on the possibility of setting up a Staff for Irregular Troops.

Personal, administrative, political, and investigative files of Nickerson. The papers deal almost entirely with his eight years as County Executive, and consist of correspondence, memoranda, manuscripts of speeches, notes, press releases, photographs, and clippings. Among the major correspondents are James A. Farley, Hubert H. Humphrey, Robert F. Kennedy, Edward I. Koch, and Percy E. Sutton. The Investigation Files, which amount to nearly half the collection, document investigation into corruption and mismanagement in numerous Long Island businesses and governmental departments. These investigations, instigated and overseen by Nickerson, were carried out largely by the Commissioner of Accounts, Milton Lipson, and later by Samuel Greason, the first governmental ombudsman in the United States. These files consist primarily of memoranda, transcripts of hearings, payroll and financial accounts, notes, and tape recordings.

Shlippe's manuscripts include his memoirs (200 p.) and three brief manuscripts. The memoirs describe his work in the Moscow Zemstvo organization and in the Imperial Ministry of Agriculture. There are acounts of the political trends among zemstvo personnel, the reactions to the Stolypin reforms, the 1913 Congress of Zemstvo workers and the formation of the Vserossiĭskiĭ zemskiĭ soi︠u︡z. There are brief remarks on the Russo-Japanese War and the 1905 and February 1917 Revolutions. Other manuscripts include Shlippe's essay"Begstvo iz Moskvy v Rigu" (1947), an undated memo discussing the Russian Red Cross in Germany, 1921-1938, and a six-page memoir by Elizaveta P. Shlippe entitled "Neskolḱo stranit︠s︡ iz moeĭ zhizni.".

Notes and books from the library of Frances Elizabeth Henne, including some of her own books from her childhood, and others on children's literature inscribed to her by the authors; material for her class on illustration in children's literature, 1952-1979; and memorabilia. Also, a 3,000 card bibliography of children's books cited in book dealer catalogs as well as a small group of entries for monographs and serials with references to children's literature; printed ephemera collected by Phyllis Yuill Marquart (Columbia M.L.S., 1973) relating to her collecting of and research on Helen Bannerman's LITTLE BLACK SAMBO. Included are photocopies of Bannerman's out-of-print books, a folder on commercial spinoffs, such as Sambo's Restaurants, photocopies of various editions of STRUWELPETER, which contains the Sambo story and a 1971 BBC audio tape recording and transcript of a radio program on the topic.

There are notes from her lectures on Sociology at Adelphi College in 1911-1912; papers from 1912-1932, when Perkins served on the Commission for Safety and on the Industrial Commission of New York State; the main body of the material is from the period of her cabinet office, 1933-1945; and some items from her days on the Civil Service Commission, 1946-1953. Also included are personal and family papers.

They document the settlement and its antecedent institutions from 1854 to 1994, offering a unique view of the first wave of the settlement house movement in America, as well as related philanthropy and social welfare activities in New York City over a 140 year period. The origins of Goddard-Riverside Community Center are documented in Series I, which includes eight institutional subseries. These records provide a wealth of information on philanthropic, social welfare and settlement work from the mid-19th century through the 1950s. Series II - IV document the activities of the settlement from 1959 to the 1990s, with a particular emphasis on the urban renewal period of the 1960s. Items in Series VII include photographs of staff, activities, facilities of Goddard-Riverside Community Center, as well as several of its predecessor institutions.

This archive consists of manuscripts, business files, production materials, and correspondence from 1966 -2012. The journal Hanging Loose was first published in 1966 was preceded by the journal Things, begun by two Columbia College students Emmet Jarrett and Ron Schreiber, Hanging Loose Press founders. The most recent issue #101 was published in 2013. The press has also published books, mostly poetry. The selection process is collective and inclusive. Hanging Loose publishes high school students and has dedicated issues to literature written by prison inmates. HL published Hettie Jones, long-time Columbia-affiliated poet Paul Violi, Jack Agueros, Sherman Alexie, and Charles North, as well as many of the collective members. Denise Levertov is a former board member.

There are extensive drafts and source materials for her unpublished autobiography. The office files of the American Institute of Pacific Relations and the international Institute of Pacific Relations, containing correspondence and reports concerned with international conferences, research programs, and publications programs of both Institutes, and relating to the political, economic, and social problems in eastern and southern Asia and the South Pacific, as well as with problems of American foreign policy. There are many travel letters and on-the-spot reports relating to conditions in China, Japan, Russia, Australia, the Philippines, India, and Pakistan during the period 1933 to 1954.

James Yen and the IIRR concerned with the development, sharing, and financing innovative methods of teaching, improving agriculture, health and family planning, and education in impoverished villages. Among the cataloged correspondents are: Pearl Buck, William O. Douglas, Nelson Rockefeller, and DeWitt Clinton.

The collection includes Pli︠u︡shchevskiĭ-Pli︠u︡shchik's diaries for 1905-1909 (covering the Russo-Japanese War, and the 1905 Revolution) and 1914-1920 (covering World War I, the 1917 Russian Revolution and the Civil War). Among other manuscripts are a memorandum prepared by General Denikin's staff for the allied missions upon their arrival in Ekaterinodar (Nov. 1918) and Pli︠u︡shchevskiĭ-Pli︠u︡shchik's obituary of General Ivan Romanovskiĭ. There is also a photograph of Pli︠u︡shchevskiĭ-Pli︠u︡schik and Romanovskiĭ at Imperial Staff Headquarters in Mogilev in 1917.

In addition to personal correspondence and documents, there are files of Amnesty International, the human rights organization of which Morris was American Section chairman. Also included are notes and manuscripts of Morris' studies in Japanese literature and culture, particularly relating to his many books and translations. His interest in puzzles, and compilations of several volumes of them, are reflected in notes and correspondence. Collection includes three chapters apparently from the manuscript of a book by Efremov on the causes of the Revolution of 1917 in Russia; memoranda, notes, and clippings on attempts made in the 1920s and 1930s to bring about a rapprochement between the Russian Orthodox, Catholic, and Anglican churches (these materials were prepared for the Carnegie Endowment, apparently in 1935-36); and a 1917 menu from a restaurant in Petrograd.

With the exception of letters to John Dewey, George Rives, G. Stanley Hall and some original incoming correspondence, the papers of James McKeen Cattell consist of typescript copies of correspondence with Seth Low, Nicholas Murray Butler, and faculty members, dealing with Psychology Dept. matters, professional matters, and Cattell's battle for academic freedom which ended in his dismissal from and subsequent suit against Columbia. Included are typescript copies of University reports, printed court records, and transcripts of correspondence with Cattell's lawyers.

The files of the literary agency include correspondence with authors, publishers, and other agents and deal with editing and publishing, serial rights, reprints, dramatic rights, translations and foreign rights, promotion, copyright registration, contracts, royalty statements, tax statements, and other financial materials, and the personal affairs of many clients. Among the cataloged correspondents are: Louis S. Auchincloss, Erskine Caldwell, Herbert Gold, Alberto Moravia, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Rebecca West.

Collection consists of Schilt's correspondence as chairperson of Columbia's department of astronomy and director of the Yale-Columbia Southern Station as well as the Rutherford Observatory at Columbia. The majority of arranged office files are comprised of memoranda, documents, some departmental correspondence, committee reports, course material including material for student laboratory exercises. Thers is also a small sampling of Schilt's early notes as a student and reports of oo-site testing done under the auspices of the National Science Foundation.

Much of the correspondence details Marcu's efforts to persuade the American Military Government for Bavaria not to issue a weapons permit to a former Nazi who was seeking a position with the newly reconstituted police force.

These files concern the publication of Anne Frank: the Diary of a Young Girl in 1952, the dramatization of this diary and the subsequent legal disputes with Meyer Levin over the play, and the motion picture made from the play. They also deal with the activities of the Anne Frank Foundation, primarily support for the renovation of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and the programs of the International Anne Frank Youth Center. These files include 145 letters from her father, Otto Frank, and letters from Alfred Kazin, Max Lerner, Meyer Levin, and Eleanor Roosevelt. There are also seven letters from Adela Rogers St. Johns and related materials about her own books and the 1963 volume of minutes of the Doubleday & Co. Publishing Committee.

The LaGuardia Memorial House Records document the settlement's activities from its earliest years as "The Home Garden" to its current social service programs for the youth of East Harlem. They offer a unique view of the first wave of the settlement movement in America, and document social conditions, demographic change, political activity, philanthropy and social work in East Harlem over a 90 year period. The records include: annual reports, board minutes and correspondence, headworker correspondence, financial records, fundraising information, and photographs.

The papers, which consist to a large extent of mimeographed and printed reports of various organizations with which Evans was affiliated, chronicle a wide range of his activities in the fields of law, international relations, and library service. Among the cataloged correspondents are: Dorothy Canfield Fisher, Norman Cousins, S. Radhakrishnan, and Paul H. Douglas.

The Klachko papers are almost entirely made up of her research notes for her biography of Admiral Benson. The material covers all aspects of his life, including his early naval career, his tenure as Chief of Naval Operations, and his Chairing of the U.S. Shipping Board. The catalogued correspondence are mainly replies to Klachkos̀ appeal for information about Benson, the naval and political milieu of early 20th century, and help to publish, review and edit her growing manuscript. Among the catalogued correspondence are: Norman Angell, Walter Lippmann, Edward House, and Eleanor Roosevelt. The catalogued manuscript is Klachkos̀ bio of Benson bound in 5 parts. It is interesting to note that her final manuscript draft is 1038 pages whereas the published biography merely numbers 268 pages. The rest of the collection is comprised of photos of Benson and other important naval and political figures of the time, and Klachkos̀ extensive research notes.

The collection consiste of correspondence, memoranda, reports, bulletins, clippings, photographs, awards, and printed material. The files, arranged by genre and topic and reflect her philanthropic and legislative work in the areas of health, specifically cancer, heart disease, and mental health. Her civic and legislative work is covered in detail, as well as her private interests and activities.

Autograph and typed letters from James Thomas Farrell to Schapiro, concerning Farrell's personal life, his writings, and current social and political affairs. There are also eight of Farrell's manuscripts from the 1960s. The long friendship of neighbors is seen in Farrell's personal letters about his private life and his family and in the discussions of whichever novel he was working on at the time. The main body of the correspondence is from the World War II period and shows much concern for current events in the Soviet Union as well as in the U.S. and Europe. The author also made a few forays into Irish humor, as in the use of his pseudonym, Jonathan Titelescu Fogarty. There are autograph drafts of Prof. Schapiro's replies to and notes about Farrell, and letters and post cards from Farrell's actress wife, Hortense Adler. Also, a letter from Frances Mitchell on her book, THE AWAKENING - LE REVEIL, 1950.

Papers concern the fate of Admiral Horthy after the Second World War. Included are applications for assistance to the International Refugee Organization from Horthy and his wife; copies of the affidavits by Leon Blum and two others about Horthy's internment in German concentration camps in 1945; and related correspondence, memoranda, and others.

The incomplete records of the New York State Library School, Albany, 1890-1911. Included are diploma lists, grade sheets, examination questions, examination questions with corresponding set of students' answers, pass cards, senior certificate lists, an admissions application, entrance examinations, curriculum materials, and some documents for the class of 1890. Also, records of the New York State Library School Association, Incorporated. In addition to letters from such prominent American librarians as Katharine L. Sharp, Joseph Wheeler, Ralph Munn, and James I. Wyer, there are minutes, reports, memoranda, and printed documents, including the Association's constitution. There is a scrapbook of blanks and forms used in the executive departments of U.S. libraries in 1893, mounted by the N.Y. State Library School for the American Library Association World's Columbian Exposition Comparative Library Exhibit (Chicago, 1893). Also, files of the school consisting of course materials, exams, publications of the School, student records, admission files, class lists and rankings, and some related correspondence.

The New York Technical Services Librarians (NYTSL) records include correspondence, minutes, memoranda, reports, questionnaires, programs, financial records, membership records, typescript copies of papers presented at meetings, and related printed materials. Several topics of note are the 1926 meeting to honor Margaret Mann; the 1926 cooperative cataloging issue; and the 1946 American Library Association constitution matter.

Correspondence, mostly from the Soi︠u︡z nat︠s︡ionalńogo osvobozhdenii︠a︡ (Union for National Liberation) and the Sovet obʺedinennoĭ russkoĭ molodezhi (Council of United Russian Youth), concerns the establishment of a united monarchist movement in the 1920s. Manuscripts and memoranda describe the state of the monarchist movement in the emigration. Printed materials consist of monarchist pamphlets and circulars, and also printed directives dated 1919 from the commander of the Prishibskai︠a︡ and Graderfelśkai︠a︡ volosts.

The collection includes correspondence, manuscripts by Melńikov and others, documents, photographs, subject files and printed materials. There is a cataloged letter from George Kennan. Correspondence consists primarily of letters from various members of the Don Cossacks in exile, including General A.P. Bogaevskiĭ, Melńikov, and General V.V. Naumenko. Manuscripts include Melńikov's typescript memoirs "Pochemu 'belye' na i︠u︡ge ne pobedili krasnykh?"(230 p.). Reports, by members of the Don government in exile, are on the economy of Southeast Russia. Photographs and documents concern the Don Cossacks. Subject files primarily cover the Don Cossacks during the Civil War in exile. They include several signed letters and memos by General Denikin dated 1920. The financial records of the Don government in exile cover the years 1921-1926. The bulk of the printed materials consists of issues No. 51-272 (1930-1939) of the journal "Volńoe kazachestvo," published in Prague and later in Paris. Among the printed materials there is also a pamphlet dated 1919 and entitled "Vremennoe polozhenie o grazhdanskom upravlenii v mestnosti︠a︡kh, nakhodi︠a︡schikhsi︠a︡ pod verkhovnym upravleniem glavnokomandui︠u︡schego vooruzhennymi silami na i︠u︡ge Rossii." The majority of the material in the collection concerns the Don Cossacks in emigration.

Telexes comprising the weekly newswire and the employee newswire during the financial reorganization and final days of Pan American World Airways at the end of 1991. These teletype memoranda carried news of corporate changes which affected the employees and other corporate news.

The editorial and production files of Pantheon Books from 1944 through 1968. The correspondence from authors, agents, and publishers is written to Kurt and Helen Wolff, Jacques Schiffrin, André Schiffrin, and the editors of the firm. The files document the publication of works by A. Alvarez, Georges Bernanos, Hermann Broch, Jacob Burckhardt, Albert Camus, William Demby, Eugene Ionesco, Karl Jaspers, Winifred Bryher, Jacques Maritain, Isamu Noguchi, José Ortega y Gasset, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Sir Herbert Read, Ben Shahn, and others.

Correspondence, manuscripts, notes, technical reports, memoranda, questionnaires, interview schedules, personal and professional documents, several photographs, one tape recording, and printed materials. The correspondence files contain letters to colleagues and researchers such as Bernard Berelson, Robert Lynd, Robert Merton, and Frank Stanton. The subject files document Lazarsfeld's many research projects such as the Admissions Officers Project, 1964-1970, the Planning Project for Advanced Training in Social Research, 1950-1955, and his first major endeavor, the Princeton Radio Research Project, 1937-1940. There are complete records for his 1954-1955 study on McCarthyism's effect on college teaching. These original materials consisting of correspondence, interview schedules, and questionnaires contain many detailed comments which could not be included in the published version of this study, THE ACADEMIC MIND (1958). Numerous files relate to Lazarsfeld's position as Associate Director of the Bureau of Applied Social Research (BASR). There are manuscripts of books, research papers, lectures, and articles by Lazarsfeld as well as by his students and colleagues.

Correspondence files of Roberts Brothers, pertaining to all departments, editorial, production, advertising, and sales. Also, some miscellaneous letters and documents, unrelated to Roberts Brothers, which deal with various legal matters, including those of Frederick D. Ely and of William A. Dunn, from 1838 until 1932, and letters to the Secretary of Harvard University from 1900 to 1907.

ROVS North America (ROVS-N.A.) Records consist of correspondence, manuscripts, documents, photographs, organizational records, subject files, and printed materials. There are also papers of the Paris-based Sovet Rossiiskogo Zarubezhnogo Voinstva (Council of the Russian Military Abroad) and other emigre military and political organizations active in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and South America. The cataloged correspondence includes letters by Evgenii Miller, Nikolai Tsurikov, Aleksandr Kutepov and other emigre figures and by Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, Barry Goldwater and other prominent American politicians. Arranged correspondence series consist of general office files, Paris-New York files, correspondence of Aleksei von Lampe and Vladimir Vitkovskii and topical correspondence files. Among the manuscripts are short articles and reminiscences by various people. There are photographs of Evgenii Miller, Nicholas II and of emigre organizational gatherings during the 1950s and 1960s. The organizational records include circulars, bulletins, orders, memoranda, reports, publications and financial records for ROVS and the Sovet Rossiiskogo Zarubezhnogo Voinstva. Subject files concern such topics as the Elisavetgrad Military Academy, the Union of the First Kuban Campaign, the Gallipoli societies, the Ingermanlandskii Regiment and the Russian Anti-Communist Center in New York. The collection consists chiefly of correspondence and production files relating to the creation, production, and performance of their works for stage, screen, radio, and television, such as Leave It To Me and Kiss Me Kate (with music by Cole Porter), Boy Meets Girl, and My Three Angels. Correspondence (with twentieth century authors, playwrights, musicians, political figures, and actors) includes: George Abbott, Jean Arthur, Bennett Cerf, Katharine Cornell, Jo Davidson, George and Ira Gershwin, Alec Guinness, W. Averell Harriman, Lilli Lehmann, Mary Martin, Laurence Olivier, Mary Pickford, Cole Porter, Regina Resnick, Eleanor Roosevelt, Robert E. The papers reflect Lindsay's various activities and are arranged in two sequences, an alphabetical name file and an alphabetical subject file. Since many of the subjects are closely related, the division between them is not always very sharp. Among the subjects covered are: social legislation, I.L.O., National Child Labor Committee, prohibition, labor, Republican National Committee, Institute for Social Research, League of Nations, humane legislation, housing, Harmon Foundation, Educational Radio Corporation, and the Bergh Foundation. Boxes 167-169 contain the files of the Committee for Industrial Relations, 1912-1914

Correspondence, memoranda, photoreproductions of manuscript excerpts by Kafka, publicity files, production records, and printed materials for the works of the Austrian author, Franz Kafka, in German and English translations, 1940-1977. These extant files were set aside by David Rome, the former president of Schocken Books, after the firm was purchased by Pantheon Books, a division of Random House, several years ago. The files consist mainly of production files for the first American editions of THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA (1946), LETTERS TO MILENA (1948), ERZAHLUNGEN UND KLEINE PROSA (1957), and FRANZ KAFKA: BRIEFE (l958). Also included is a publicity file aimed at American Jewish organizations and college and university German departments promoting SAMLICHE WERKE edited by Max Brod as well as his biography of Kafka, and a marked master galley proof for PARABLES AND PARADOXES (1958). Also included are photocopies and mimeograph copies of playscripts based on Kafka's DIARY and METAMORPHOSES and a script by Michael McClure, JOSEPHINE, based on a character of the same name in Kafka's story, THE MOUSE FOLK. There is correspondence with Professor Heinz Pollitzer concerning the promotion of publishing Kafka's writings in the early 1960s. The printed materials are chiefly book reviews of Kafka's publications and some scholarly articles on Kafka.

Correspondence, reports, papers, and notes of Wallace. The collection consists primarily of copies of correspondence, student papers, government and organizational reports, and Wallace's own notes and drafts of papers.

Correspondence, manuscripts, subject files and research notes of Sigmund Diamond. Included among the correspondence are Diamond's letters to and from various distinguished members of Columbia University and other academic insitutions, as well as correspondence with many noted sociologists and historians. Included in the manuscripts is Diamond's "In Quest." The subject files comprise material from Diamond's tenure at Columbia and include some material pertaining to his forced departure from Harvard in the 1950's due to his previous communist affiliation, and his active role in maintaining the efficacy of the Freedom of Information Act. The research files include microfilms and notes.

Correspondence, by-laws, memoranda, contracts, permission forms, reports, bank statements and other legal papers, advertising, and printed materials.

The records of the Soiuz byvshikh russkikh sudebnykh deiatelei vo Frantsii (Association of Former Russian Magistrates in France) from its inception in 1925 through 1970. The most frequently recurring materials are: correspondence, both general and specifically related to membership drives and fund-raising activities; minutes and organization memoranda; legal briefs on behalf of clients settling disputes before arbitration panels; and mimeo and printed materials, especially clippings. Included among the correspondence are several letters from Generals Denikin, Miller and Vrangel.

The records include annual reports, correspondence, memos, minutes, program files, news clippings, administrative records and photographs. They document the agency from its origins in a committee led by the Lenox Hill Neighborhood Association to its work during the 1990s providing social services to thousands of East Side residents. The founding and early history of the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center are best documented by minutes in Series II, showing the collaboration between the New York City Housing Authority and the Lenox Hill Neighborhood Association to establish the agency. They also offer the most comprehensive view of administrative, fundraising and program decisions from the early years to the 1990s. This series is supplemented by architectural drawings and plans for the community center in Series VI. Program records in Series V focus on the period 1980-90, with a few items from the 1960s and '70s. The agency's fundraising efforts are documented in Series III, which includes correspondence with foundations and individuals, donor lists and committee files.

Two typescripts, both entitled "Confidential Memorandum on Trotskyite Movement in U.S." (11 p.); the second is a supplement to the first. They concern Trotskyist groups in the United States in the 1930's. The author of the memoranda is not mentioned.

Minutes, memoranda, bulletins and printed materials of the Uchreditel'noe sobranie (Russian Constituent Assembly) in Paris in 1921. There are minutes of the Judicial Commission of the Assembly; resolutions of the Executive Committee of the Assembly; a report of the Executive Committee's activities during 1921; numerous memoranda prepared by the Assembly mainly concerning Soviet Russia's relations with Western European and Far Eastern countries and treaties affecting Soviet Russia after WWI; and 11 typed information bulletins about the famine in Russia, Russian refugees and prisoners-of-war, and the financial situation of Soviet Russia in 1921. The printed materials include information bulletins, appeals to aid those suffering from the famine in Russia, and several pamphlets on Soviet prisons, the Treaty of Riga (1921), and the commercial pact between England and Soviet Russia(1921). There is also a folder with miscellaneous materials.

The Union Settlement Association Records document a century of the settlement's activities, and provide a unique view of the first wave of the settlement movement in America. They document social conditions, demographic change, political activity, philanthropy and social work in East Harlem with a strong emphasis on the urban renewal period of the 1950s and '60s. The records include: annual reports, board minutes and committee files, headworker and executive director files, program reports, community organization files, and visual materials such as photographs, maps and architectural drawings.
