Correspondence, manuscripts, memoranda, contracts and other legal papers, advertising, and printed materials. The files, 1958-1978, of the Harold Matson Company, Inc. include correspondence with authors, publishers, and other agents and deal with the editing and publishing of American and English books, serial rights, reprints, dramatic rights, translations, foreign rights, promotion, and copyright registration. The contract file of McIntosh, McKee & Dodds, Inc. Literary Representatives is also included.

Biographical / historical:

Literary agency in the New York City. In 1965, Harold Matson Company, Inc. purchased McIntosh, McKee & Dodds, Inc. Literary Representatives (formerly Mavis McIntosh-Elizabeth KcKee; and earlier, McIntosh-Otis).

Restrictions:

Collection open to researchers. Publication subject to permission agreement obtained from the Matson office. No copies allowed without permission, including reading room photographs.

Series I: Cataloged Correspondence and Manuscripts (Cataloged Boxes 1-9) is located on-site.

The following boxes are located off-site: Boxes 1-139. You will need to request this material from the Rare Book and Manuscript Library at least three business days in advance to use the collection in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library reading room.

Terms of access:

No copies allowed without permission, including reading room photographs. Publication subject to permission agreement obtained from the Matson office. The RBML maintains ownership of the physical material only. Copyright remains with the creator and his/her heirs. The responsibility to secure copyright permission rests with the patron.
