Series IV: Professional files, 1936-1996

This series contains material relating to Jarrico's professional activities. These files are distinguished from the material in Series I insofar as they do not relate to specific film projects, or contain material relating to multiple film projects. This series is divided into two subseries: one relating to Jarrico's union memberships, and the other relating to other film-related activities, including Jarrico's university teaching.


Subseries IV.1: Union documents, 1937-1996

This subseries contains material relating to Jarrico's membership in the Screen Writers Guild and the Writers Guild of America. It comprises correspondence, official communications (journals, newsletters, and memoranda), informational materials (such as credits manuals), pension plans, and other administrative documents. This subseries documents a number of credits disputes that the union interceded in on Jarrico's behalf and also covers the Screen Writers Guild's response to Jarrico's firing from RKO. Other material relating to credits disputes can be found in Series I, Series II, and Subseries IV.2.

Subseries IV.2: Teaching and filmmaking, 1936-1995

This subseries contains professional correspondence (with agents and collaborators), financial documents (including tax returns), copyright documentation, and studio contracts. It also includes assorted drafts and notes—largely corresponding to unproduced projects. Jarrico's teaching materials from the University of California Santa Barbara and San Francisco State University are also included in this subseries.

Correspondence with and about Max Youngstein, CEO of Taft International Pictures. Includes other production documents relating to their collaborations.


Box 35 Folder 4 Phillip Borsos, 1992-1995

Correspondence with and about film director Phillip Borsos. Also includes clippings, script drafts, and other production documents relating to "Canticle for Leibowitz," "Pair of Kings," "Leonardo." Includes a full script and outline for "Bull Boy" by Marlon Brando. Includes a proposal for a television series "The Grey Fox."

Jarrico tutored Stephen Galloway in scriptwriting, providing him feedback on his work. Includes correspondence, notes, and recommendation letters relating to this tuition.
