A large collection of portraits of librarians, consisting mainly of photographs, newspaper clippings, and magazine articles.

Correspondence, manuscripts, memoranda, contracts, and other legal documents, account books, royalty statements and other financial records, photographs, printed materials, and card files of the Watkins Loomis, Inc. literary agency. The papers deal with editorial, financial, and legal aspects of publishing, magazine, theatrical and film rights, and all other personal and professional activities of their American and English clients. Among these clients have been Michael Arlen, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Theodore Dreiser, Ernest Hemingway, Sinclair Lewis, Carson McCullers, Ezra Pound, Ayn Rand, Dorothy Sayers, Gertrude Stein, and Dylan Thomas.

This collections contains the photographs and some research files kept by the Columbia College Today staff and used for the production of the alumni magazine. There are photographs of former students (not from their student days), class reunions, faculty and administrators, and Columbia campus views and events.

Letters and papers including correspondence extending in date from 1873 to 1930 and consisting principally of letters to Dr. Burgess from friends, associates, and contemporary scholars in the field of political science, and dealing with academic and scholarly subjects, the publication of his various writings, his teaching career, business, and personal affairs. Included are some original letters written by Burgess and copies of others. The letters to Burgess are from Europe and America with the majority in English, but a number are in German. Also, twenty-two file boxes containing manuscript and typescript notes for lectures, courses, articles, addresses, books, and more correspondence relating to these.

Professional and personal papers of Smith, including correspondence and manuscripts from his students, family, contemporary mathematicians and teaching colleagues about the history and teaching of mathematics, his many committees, administrative matters at Teachers College, and his travels and collecting. Also, the manuscripts of his writings and his notes.

Correspondence, manuscripts, memoranda, contracts and other legal papers, advertising, and printed materials. The files, 1958-1978, of the Harold Matson Company, Inc. include correspondence with authors, publishers, and other agents and deal with the editing and publishing of American and English books, serial rights, reprints, dramatic rights, translations, foreign rights, promotion, and copyright registration. The contract file of McIntosh, McKee & Dodds, Inc. Literary Representatives is also included.

Personal, administrative, political, and investigative files of Nickerson. The papers deal almost entirely with his eight years as County Executive, and consist of correspondence, memoranda, manuscripts of speeches, notes, press releases, photographs, and clippings. Among the major correspondents are James A. Farley, Hubert H. Humphrey, Robert F. Kennedy, Edward I. Koch, and Percy E. Sutton. The Investigation Files, which amount to nearly half the collection, document investigation into corruption and mismanagement in numerous Long Island businesses and governmental departments. These investigations, instigated and overseen by Nickerson, were carried out largely by the Commissioner of Accounts, Milton Lipson, and later by Samuel Greason, the first governmental ombudsman in the United States. These files consist primarily of memoranda, transcripts of hearings, payroll and financial accounts, notes, and tape recordings.
