This drawing by Al Hirschfeld was made just as he was hitting his artistic stride. It features actors in both a Pulitzer Prize-winning play and a Tennessee Williams play, as well as an actor who co-founded the American Negro Theatre in Harlem.

Correspondence, notes, and writings of Sayre, including materials pertaining to his work for various organizations, public and private, concerned with problems in public administration. There is also a subject file containing notes and other materials gathered by Sayre for use in publications and lectures. The correspondence is extensive, and consists of routine business correspondence, occasional letters (uncataloged) from such persons as William Ronan and other city and university officials, and files of correspondence with members of the family of Senator Robert M. La Follette. Catalogued correspondents include Chester Bowles, Dumas Malone, Bennett Cerf, and Fiorello La Guardia.

The papers relate to numerous organizations--social, political, civic, and philanthropic--with which he was associated. Among these organizations are Legal Aid Society; Prison Association of New York; Outdoor Recreation League; Socialist Democratic League and National Party; American Alliance for Labor and Democracy; Constitutional Democracy Association; National Security League; YMCA, etc. Included among the papers are his journals and diaries, 1884-1950. Correspondence, subject files, manuscripts and printed materials documenting the work of C. Martin Wilbur, George Sansom Professor Emeritus of Chinese History, Columbia University. Correspondence with non-Columbia organizations includes the Institute of Pacific Relations, Far Eastern Association, INDUSCO, Council on Foreign Relations, Asia Foundation, and American Council of Learned Societies, among others. Subject files relevant to Columbia University include items pertaining to the Department of Chinese and Japanese, later renamed the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, as well as teaching files, student files and research projects directed. The manuscript files contain the notes and, in some cases, printed copies of published and unpublished works and public talks. Wilbur's writings and research concentrate on the history and politics of twentieth century China, with emphasis on the Chinese Revolution, 1920-1929, Sun Yat-sen, and communism in China. There are translations of minutes for the first and second Kuomintang Congresses, copies of documents from the Kuomintang Archives, and photographs of members of the Young China Party, Sun Yat-sen and several historical events in the 1920s. Files on fund raising efforts for the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and the Wellington Koo Fellowship also contain relevant correspondence. This collection contains materials related to a full range of Blake's personal, professional, and academic lives. The bulk of the collection dates from the 1980s through the early 2000s. His professional and faculty papers document many of his interests, and primarily include published and unpublished lectures and articles. Although Blake delivered his lectures at various architectural schools in the United States and abroad, the specific locations of the lectures are not usually recorded on the documents. In addition, many articles he wrote for publication appear as annotated typescripts. There are also significant papers related to publication of his memoir No Place Like Utopia (Knopf, 1993), including correspondence and some production records. Throughout the professional and faculty papers are also found a large number of reference files relating to modern architecture, art, design, urbanism, technology, and current events, compiled over many decades. The collection also contains correspondence with personal friends, clients, and professional and academic colleagues. There is an especially significant amount of correspondence and clippings related to Patwant Singh, a Sikh writer, commentator, journalist, editor, and publisher, with whom Blake was a close friend. There are also many materials including correspondence, typescripts, and book production records related to Philip Johnson and Paul Rudolph, with whom Blake was also close. Architectural project records include original and reprographic drawings and photographs for 40 residential and institutional designs, located primarily in New York City and the surrounding region. Of particular note are drawings and papers related to Blake's important Pin Wheel House (1954) in Water Mill, New York. In addition, there are drawings related to the American National Exhibition in Moscow (1959). Finally, there is a significant number of drawings, photographs, and correspondence related to the Benjamin Gerson Residence (1999-2003) in Johnsonburg, New Jersey, one of Blake's last architectural projects.

Of interest in the correspondence are letters from John Foster Dulles, Lieut. Gen. John R. Hodge and Maj. Gen. Archer L. Lerch, the first two U.S. military governors of South Korea, Syngman Rhee, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Kim Il Sung. His correspondence deals mainly with the issue of reunification. The manuscript series includes articles and speeches by Kim as well as unpublished manuscripts by others assigned to him. The documents are mainly those related to the Korean Affairs Institute. The press clippings and printed materials cover Korean problems from 1945 to 1975 and include Korean language newspapers and periodicals. Thera are also some books and pamphlets from his library, including printed volumes of Korean government documents and other books on Korea from the first two decades of the twentieth century, six electrical transcriptions of radio programs in which Kim was interviewed, and one motion picture film "Liberation of Korea."

Letters of Milne to his agent Curtis Brown, relating largely to Milne's plays, particularly MR. PIM PASSES BY and BROXOPP.

Correspondence, memoranda, manuscripts, manuscript notes, typescripts, and printed materials. Most of the papers concern the bibliographical control of scientific literature with particular emphasis on the development of an information storage and retrieval system for the Olin Mathiessen Chemical Corporation Library. There are letters from librarians and scientists, Olin Mathiessen inter-office memoranda, Fessler's manuscripts, manuscript notes and typescripts, and supporting printed materials published by IBM. There are also mimeograph copies of papers by several other information scientists. Also, Fessler's file of approximately 200 typescripts of his book, record, and cassette reviews on a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles chiefly for LIBRARY JOURNAL. In addition there are some course-related materials for the library science classes Fessler taught at Southern Connecticut State College, 1961-1965, including one of his syllabi and some correspondence relating to education for special librarianship. The printed materials include several articles by Fessler and two items inscribed by colleagues to him.
