Abstract Or Scope: This series contains typescript news releases in English that were produced by the CIC from 1938. As the CIC was a propaganda office, the reports unerringly paint China's economic and military situations in a favorable light, while criticizing and undermining the Japanese war effort. Reports of Japanese war crimes and the plight of Chinese refugees dominate the pages, interspersed with addresses from Jiang Jieshi and Song Meiling (Madame Chiang Kai-shek). Stories involving missionaries and foreign countries also figure prominently. Also included are topical materials such as reports, original and copied correspondence, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, and bulletins that deal with Japanese war crimes, missionaries, China Information Service, and other efforts during the time frame. Abstract Or Scope: The American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM), organized in 1810, was the first successful North American agency dedicated to foreign missions. ABCFM existed until 1961 when it merged with the Board of International Missions to form the United Church Board for World Ministries. The collection concerns missions in South Africa in Rhodesia and Zulu; missions in Asia including Turkey, India, Japan, and China; missions in the Philippine Islands; and ABCFM organization in general.

Abstract Or Scope: Miner Searle Bates taught history at Nanking University 南京大學, was a member of the International Committee for Nanking Safety Zone in the Second Sino-Japanese War, and Professor of Missions at Union Theological Seminary, New York, 1950-1965. The collection contains papers, meeting minutes, articles, reports, and other publications collected or created by Bates regarding missions in 20th century China.

Abstract Or Scope: Samuel Dodd was an American United Presbyterian missionary in Ningbo, China and Hangzhou, China; Samuel Thompson Carter Dodd was his eldest son, born in Ningbo, China. The collection contains a copy of Samuel Dodd's 1861-1877 journal typed and with notes by his son, as well as correspondence and photographs.

Abstract Or Scope: The China Information Committee 中國情報委員會 was established in late 1937 as part of the newly-formed Chinese Ministry of Information, an organ of the Chinese Nationalist Party (guomindang 國民黨), to produce propaganda for a foreign audience regarding the ongoing hostilities between China and Japan. The collection contains a series of propaganda news releases in English produced during the Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945), reports on the wartime Chinese economy, war crimes, refugees, and the gradual retreat and relocation of industries and offices to Chongqing in West China.

Abstract Or Scope: The Chinese oral history project collection (中國口述歷史項目檔案) provides a wealth of information on the development of the project and its interviews with eminent Chinese political figures abroad in the United States and Hong Kong from 1958 to 1980s. The completed interviews are described separately under the Chinese oral history project, while this collection provides context of creation for the interviews and additional historical documentation on interviewees. The highlights of the collection consist of the administrative subject files, correspondence, interview photographs and reports, transcript drafts, collected autobiographies and manuscripts, audio recording, and card files of names mentioned in the transcripts.
