Summary

The majority of the collection consists of bound volumes of missionary recordkeeping and statistics, including directories of Protestant missionaries in China, and reports from the National Christian Council of China. Also included are personal correspondence, biographical and autobiographical writings, and clippings from magazines and newspapers.

Collection open for research by appointment. The collection is unrestricted with the exception of the file drawers of index cards which cannot be handled for preservation reasons. It should be noted that significant portions of this collection are very fragile and requests for copies may be restricted as a result.

Charles Luther Boynton was a Union Theological Seminary alumnus, a Baptist missionary to China, a member of the China Continuation Committee, Secretary of the National Christian Council of Churches, and a founding member of the Shanghai American School and of the Community Church of Shanghai.
