(Originally, co-chaired by I. I. Rabi, Higgins Professor of Physics, and Philip C. Jessup, Hamilton Fish Professor of International Law and Diplomacy, Council for Atomic Age Studies (CAAS) was composed of representatives from the fields of Physics, Engineering, Medicine, International Relations, Journalism, Business, Philosophy, and Law. Believed to be the first of its kind in the country, this group of educators studied, in an interdisciplinary way, the problems created by the development of atomic energy. In 1961, the CAAS received a Carnegie Endowment for Internal Peace grant to survey present and propose studies dealing with the effects of science and technology on world affairs. The CAAS was absorbed into the Institute for Studies in Science and Human Affairs in 1966.)
