Description
Scope and Content
Correspondence, manuscripts, and books of Kielty. Of special interest are the long
and rich files of letters from Dorothy Canfield Fisher and W. Somerset Maugham, as
well as letters from other contemporary authors, among them, Bernard Berenson, Isak
Dinesen, Rumer Godden, Franz Werfel, and Kathleen Winsor.

Biographical Note
American author, critic, editor. Bernardine Kielty Scherman
(1890?-1973) was the author of GIRL FROM FITCHBURG (New York, 1964), editor of A
TREASURY OF SHORT STORIES (New York, 1947), editor of the magazine STORY, columnist
for the LADIES' HOME JOURNAL, and BOOK-OF-THE-MONTH CLUB NEWS, and book reviewer for
the SATURDAY REVIEW OF LITERATURE, THE NEW LEADER, and other periodicals.
