Manuscripts, proofs, and printed editions of Scheinfeld's books on human heredity, YOU AND HEREDITY, WOMEN AND MEN, and THE NEW YOU AND HEREDITY. Sketches and line drawings used as illustrations in the books are included. Also, manuscripts and clippings of his magazine articles; many examples of his comic strips, including "Dixie Dugan;" and correspondence and financial documents about his works.

This is a tricky collection, with kind of a split personality. We have it because Scheinfeld write books on heredity which led to a teaching gig at Teachers College, but before he started on that path, he was a professional cartoonist, and the comics content in the collection is extensive and unprocessed (and poorly housed).

Amram Scheinfeld was born in 1897, Louisville, Kentucky. In 1901, He moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his family. Graduated from high school in 1914, he began working as a cartoonist and a journalist for several Milwaukee newspapers such as Milwaukee Free Press, Wisconsin News, and Baltimore-area newspapers. He later moved to New York City and grew interest in genetics from his work in journalism. Scheinfeld took classes at the University of Wisconsin, the New School, New York University and at academies in Paris. Scheinfeld authored the column "Looking into People" in the Cosmopolitan from 1951 to 1965. His articles were published in numerous journals, magazines, and newsletter publications including Collier's, Reader's Digest, Saturday Evening Post, Esquire, and Ladies' Home Journal. He also published a number of works on human genetics and heredity: You and Heredity (1939), Women and Men (1944), The New You and Heredity (1950), The Human Heredity Handbook (1956), Why You Are You (1958, revised 1970), Postscript to Wendy (1959), Basic Facts of Human Heredity (1961), Your Heredity and Environment (1965), Twins and Supertwins (1967), Heredity in Humans (1972), and so on. Scheinfeld died in 1979, New York.
