Lekhno worked as a lawyer in KharkĖov in 1915-1921. He then emigrated to Poland, and from there in the late 1920s to Yugoslavia, where he stayed until the latter part of World War II. In both Poland and Yugoslavia he continued his legal practice. In 1944-45 he was in Germany, working for a German firm, and as a civilian attached to General Vlasov's organization. In 1949, with other displaced persons, he went to Brazil.
