Description

Scope and content

The two drawings, entitled as "Drawings of Steel and Concrete Amusement Hall on New Pier for Associated Realties Corporation" are by H.A. Stout for his 1906 design efforts to build the Steeplechase Pier, an amusement pier building in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The two drawings present the front and rear elevations and a longitudinal section for the famous amusement pier building filled with amusement arcades, popular rides, and live entertainment for beach vacationers. Stout's architectural plans were likely intended to be used onsite as well as in the architect's planning office.

Biographical / Historical

Howard Ackerman "Bud" Stout was an architect who designed many of Atlantic City, New Jersey's prominent buildings. Stout was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Class of 1895. His commissions included the Chelsea National Bank Building, schoolhouses, firehouses and residential work, notably designing the home of United States Senator Walter E. Edge.
