Papers of Thorndike, consisting of correspondence, mansucripts, diaries, notes, photocopies of medieval scientific manuscripts, glass slides, books, pamphlets, and reprints. The correspondence relates to his scholarly research and publication in the field of the history of medieval science. Also, some family and personal correspondence. One half of the collection consists of photostatic copies of manuscripts Thorndike indexed in his major work, A CATALOGUE OF INCIPITS OF MEDIAEVAL SCIENTIFIC WRITINGS IN LATIN (1963), the first draft, final copy, galley proofs, related correspondence, and extensive card files of notes used in compiling the work. There is also a typescript of the 1937 edition. Thorndike's 76 volumes of personal diaries, 1902-1963, detail his daily activities, appointments, trips abroad, and lists of reading. In addition there are his other manuscripts for journal articles and book reviews.

The correspondence, manuscripts, notes, speeches, documents, and related printed materials of Hellman, reflecting her specialty as an historian of 16th and 17th century astronomers and astronomy as well as ancient, medieval, and Renaissance science. Included in her professional correspondence are numerous letters from George Sarton and Lynn Thorndike. College records, class materials and class notes document the development of her academic career beginning with her undergraduate career at Vassar. Numerous lecture notes, class notes and working papers reflect her teaching, research and lectures at New York University, Cornell, the Columbia University Renaissance Seminar, and her active participation in professional organizations such as the History of Science Society. Of particular interest are eight boxes of notes and related printed materials concerning astronomy, astronomers, and the history of science.

Included are manuscripts from Baraka's numerous books of poetry, non-fiction, fiction, plays, editorial work, and screenplays. The collection also features organizational and documentary materials relating to Baraka's university teaching and Newark, NJ-based Black radical activism, as well as audio/visual material, photographs, and printed material collected and created by Baraka.
