Professional and personal papers, as well as materials collected by, Sorbonne professor Alfred Jeanroy. Material in Professor Jeanroy's handwriting includes lengthy as well as brief manuscripts, lectures, preparatory notes for works planned, and material for new editions of published writings. Forty-one notebooks also comprise texts of lectures in his handwriting. Many of these deal with French poetry of the Middle Ages, some with linguistic subjects. There are manuscript notes showing continuous revision of these lectures. Boxes of personal papers include documents dating from 1727, marriage contracts, wills, military and legal parchments, and old family letters. Also, many manuscripts, some of them never published, by Madame B.A. Jeanroy; and several hundred pamphlets and seven books by Professor Jeanroy and his colleagues and contemporaries.

There are also the Brand Whitlock World War I Diaries and letters to him by such people as Herbert Hoover, Gen. John J. Pershing, and others.

This correspondence is relevant to his book on Katherine Mansfield, THE MYSTERY OF MAATA, 1946, some during his work on the presumably unpublished manuscript of hers"Maata" some later and some more personal. Correspondence, memoranda, manuscripts, audio tapes, and printed materials relating to the book ONLY ONE EARTH. The correspondence files are chiefly photocopies of letters and comments from the international committee, letters and memoranda of Jackson's staff and letters from Dubos to Jackson. There is one cataloged letter from Hubert H. Humphrey. The manuscript consists of numerous versions with corrections by the authors, the final edited manuscript for the publisher and printer and page proofs. Also, files relating to publicity, serial rights, and reviews for the book. In addition, there is an audio tape package (4 cassettes) entitled "The International Development Strategy: an In-depth Discussion" (Schloat Productions, 1973). A number of the panel members were Columbia University faculty members.

Professor of History at Columbia, 1911-1951; Editor of the Political Science Quarterly, 1919-1921, Columbia Studies in History, Economics, and Public Law, 1923-1929 & 1944-1948, American Historical Review, 1936-1941"Dictionary of American Biography, Supplement II, 1935-1940" 1954-1958) regarding the volumes they coauthored. There is also correspondence regarding her "English constitutional theory" and other professional and personal matters. There is also a manuscript copy of Schuyler's article"Some twentieth-century revisions in medieval constitutional history" and a small amount of printed material. Biographical information about Schuyler can be found attached to Weston's letter of 5 February 1961 to him.

Letters to Kenton from outstanding literary figures such as Theodore Dreiser, Carl Van Vechten, Charles Hanson Towne, George Cram Cook, Henry L. Mencken, Richard Watson Gilder, Witter Bynner. The correspondence is partly personal, and part relates to the Provincetown Players, but chiefly the letters are from editors of various magazines including DELINEATOR and SMART SET, to which Kenton contributed stories.

Literary papers and some related correspondence of Moers, including typescript drafts, notes, photocopies of Theodore Dreiser letters and manuscripts, and correspondence related to writing, editing, and publishing TWO DREISERS. Revisions of this manuscript contain extensive editorial notes, instructions, and annotations by Moers' editor Malcolm Cowley. The photocopies of printed materials consist chiefly of articles written by Dreiser for newspapers and magazines, especially EV'RY MONTH. For Moers' book LITERARY WOMEN, there are typescript drafts, notes, the setting copy, and proofs. Also, letters, notes, drafts, and printed material for her article in the NEW YORK PUBLIC REVIEW OF BOOKS; correspondence, manuscripts, notes, drafts, photographs, clippings, and other printed material for her books, book reviews, articles, and lectures; and books inscribed to Moers and books on women authors and feminism with her notes.

Notes and books from the library of Frances Elizabeth Henne, including some of her own books from her childhood, and others on children's literature inscribed to her by the authors; material for her class on illustration in children's literature, 1952-1979; and memorabilia. Also, a 3,000 card bibliography of children's books cited in book dealer catalogs as well as a small group of entries for monographs and serials with references to children's literature; printed ephemera collected by Phyllis Yuill Marquart (Columbia M.L.S., 1973) relating to her collecting of and research on Helen Bannerman's LITTLE BLACK SAMBO. Included are photocopies of Bannerman's out-of-print books, a folder on commercial spinoffs, such as Sambo's Restaurants, photocopies of various editions of STRUWELPETER, which contains the Sambo story and a 1971 BBC audio tape recording and transcript of a radio program on the topic.

Letters, copies of photographs, printed materials and exhibit labels relating to Edith Wharton, 1862-1937, American novelist and short story writer, best known for such works as "Ethan Frome" (1911) and "The Age of Innocence" (1920). Letters of Freeman, addressed to various personalities at Harper Brothers and the Century Magazine, relating chiefly to the publication in serial and book form of her various novels and short stories. Autograph and typed letters from James Thomas Farrell to Schapiro, concerning Farrell's personal life, his writings, and current social and political affairs. There are also eight of Farrell's manuscripts from the 1960s. The long friendship of neighbors is seen in Farrell's personal letters about his private life and his family and in the discussions of whichever novel he was working on at the time. The main body of the correspondence is from the World War II period and shows much concern for current events in the Soviet Union as well as in the U.S. and Europe. The author also made a few forays into Irish humor, as in the use of his pseudonym, Jonathan Titelescu Fogarty. There are autograph drafts of Prof. Schapiro's replies to and notes about Farrell, and letters and post cards from Farrell's actress wife, Hortense Adler. Also, a letter from Frances Mitchell on her book, THE AWAKENING - LE REVEIL, 1950.

Correspondence of Granniss with various persons, relating to the preparation of her book AN AMERICAN FRIEND OF SOUTHEY (New York, 1913), a sketch of Maria Gowen Brooks (1795-1845). Included also are a copy of Granniss' book, two copperplates used to illustrate it, and a copy of Maria Brooks' ZÓPHIËL, a poem, Boston, 1925.

There is also correspondence concerning Bella Spewack's work with the New York Girls' Scholarship, UNRA, and the Sports Center of Israel. In addition to the production files, there are manuscripts and typescript drafts for novels, short stories, and articles by the Spewacks.

Letters to Sarah Orne Jewett from William Dean Howells, Ellen Emerson, James R. Osgod, Horace Scudder, and Charles C. Hoyt, as well as those from members of her family and friends. The letters are chiefly personal though a few relate to the publication of some of her works. Also, 43 letters to Louise Droesel.

Letters addressed to the Cranes from various members of the Crane and Howorth families, and from prominent literary figures such as Joseph Conrad, Henry James, H.G. Wells, George Bernard Shaw, Hamlin Garland, Elbert Hubbard, and Rider Haggard. A number of these letters relate to Cora Crane's activities after Stephen Crane's death, but the majority have to do with life at Brede Place in Sussex. Also present are a number of holograph manuscripts of Stephen Crane's literary works and manuscripts and typescripts of other material which he dictated. There is a group of stories and articles by Cora Crane, some pictures, photographs, art, and memorabilia. Also, seventy-four books from Crane's library, many of them signed.
