Architectural drawings for projects designed by Howells & Stokes, and by Stokes working independently, particularly, residence for Stokes' father, financier and philanthropist Anson Phelps Stokes (1838-1913) at Collender's Point, Darien, Conn., 1902-1905; a house for himself"High-Low House" Greenwich, Conn., 1901-1917; house for his wife at Indian Harbor, Greenwich, Conn., 1927, undated; outdoor pulpit for the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York, 1912-1915 (built in 1916); proposal for an apartment house at 953 Fifth Ave., New York, 1924-1926; competition entry for the Chicago Tribune Tower, undated (the competition, 1922, was won by Raymond Hood); and St. Paul's Chapel, Columbia University, New York, 1904-1930. Also, miscellaneous designs; competition entries; designs for unidentified buildings; designs for apartment buildings and housing projects; photographs of buildings by Stokes; landscape designs done by the Olmsted Brothers firm for Stokes for an unidentified project or projects. Also included are documents relating to the planning, construction, and, later, repairs and the addition of memorial tablets to St. Paul's Chapel, Columbia University, which was designed by Howells & Stokes and built in 1907. Correspondence, with related memoranda, estimates, specifications, accounts, contracts between Howells and Stokes or Stokes with Columbia University officials, and contractors and suppliers date from 1903 to the 1930s.

Annotated proofs and a letter, including proof copies, extensively revised for publication, of Cabell's GALLANTRY (short stories) and THE JEWEL MERCHANTS (a play) and a letter to a Mr. Hagerup about his works. Also, a signed typescript of Louis Untermeyer's introduction to GALLANTRY; and two letters from Cabell to Henry Blake Fuller.

A collection of diaries and journals relating to Robinson's years at the University of Freiburg, where he took his doctorate, and to his subsequent European travels before his return to America. Also, several volumes bearing Robinson's marginal notes.

Research notes of Wettereau for his writings on the First Bank of the United States. The papers are rich in information about the economic, business, and political history of the Federalist, late Confederation, and early Republican periods, the Hamiltonian program, and the disputed election of 1800. Also, correspondence, miscellaneous notes, and the typescripts of three of Prof. Wettereau's works, THE HISTORY OF THE FIRST BANK OF THE UNITED STATES, STATISTICAL RECORDS OF THE FIRST BANK OF THE UNITED STATES, 1771-1811, and DEWITT CLINTON'S CANDIDACY FOR THE PRESIDENCY.

The collection is composed of the correspondence files of the James Truslow Adams. The majority of the letters were written to Adams by various contemporary historians, educators, public figures, business associates, friends and family. The material ranges in date from 1918-1949. The letters are concerned with the following: Adams' literary activities and the publication of his writings; contemporary politics; personal and business affairs; requests and solicitations from individuals and groups for support, etc.; scholarly and academic activities. While very few original letters sent by Adams are present, there exist margin notes in his own hand on incoming letters indicating the nature of his reply. Of special note are six volumes of mounted letters and clippings relating to President Roosevelt's plan to reorganize the United States Supreme Court. Adams was an opponent of the plan.

This is a collection of twenty letters addressed to Daniel Polluche "de la Societe Literaire et Historien d'Orleans." The letters are from Etienne de Foncemagne, Louis Lemerault, Nicholas Lenglet Dufresnoy, the Duc de Luynes, Antoine-Joseph Pernety, and Daniel Secousse, and are requests for information and discussions of publishing projects related to work on Joan of Arc. There are also manuscript notes taken from books in the Jeanne d'Arc book collection"Remarques sur une Médaille de Philippe second.." by Polluche, and notes and a battle plan drawn for Samuel L. Clemens book about Joan of Arc.

Correspondence, manuscripts, galley proofs, research notes, articles, interviews, course notes, photographs, printed materials, and microfilms. The correspondence begins in 1962 and ends in 1990; it details his professional work and interests. The manuscripts are extensive and are accompanied by his research notes. Prominant among the manuscripts are: "The American Nation;" "Interviews with American Historians;" "Guide to Study Abroad;" "Harper Encyclopedia of Notable Americans." In addition there are numerous subject files covering a wide range of topics and people

Collection of 290 letters and documents (150 autograph letters signed, 140 documents and receipts), dated 1860s-1890s, written to and about New York financier and author John Austin Stevens and his son.
