Max Abramovitz architectural records and papers, 1925-1990

Max Abramovitz (1908-2004) was an American architect, whose firm Harrison & Abramovitz was one of the leading architectural practices in post-war America. Major commissions include Lincoln Center's Philharmonic Hall and the United Nations complex. The collection contains over 14,500 drawings, over 5,000 photographs, 24 boxes of manuscript material, 7 boxes of oversize material, 23 boxes of financial records, 5 boxes of reprint tear sheets, 36.75 linear feet of specification notebooks, photo albums, sketchbooks, art and artifacts.

Letters from Mary (Polly) Ingraham Bunting, Alexander (Sandy) Calder, Robert F. Kennedy, Jacques Lipchitz, Reuben Nakian, Nelson A. Rockefeller, and Samuel I. Rosenman, spanning the years 1958 to 1967. Scrapbook also contains 1939 greeting card from Hugh Ferriss, 1964 caricature of MA by Henry Dreyfuss, 1967 reception invitation from Mayor John V. Lindsay, and clippings. Photographs include the UN design team and Chagall exhibition. 22 pp. In ringbinder.

This small collection contains primarily Detwiller's student drawings, notes, course materials, books, class photographs, and graduation announcements from the period of his study at Columbia University from 1881 to 1885. These materials are supplemented by a small group of Detwiller's childhood sketchbooks, drawings and office papers created by Detwiller during his practice as a professional architect, and other scrapbooks and ephemeral items relating to Detwiller's family and personal interests, spanning the years 1874 to 1940.

Percival Goodman architectural records and papers, 1929-1989

Percival Goodman (1904-1989) was an Americam architect, teacher, urban planner, artist and writer. In a career that spanned more than sixty years, Goodman achieved renown as one of the most prolific synagogue architects in the United States and was instrumental in the development of a critical discourse around the building of modern religious architecture. The collection consists of project records, drawings, models, photographs, slides, professional correspondence and contracts, articles and unpublished manuscripts, teaching and lecture notes and personal and professional memorabilia, such as architectural licenses and certificates, as well as articles and clippings about his work.

Alan Colquhoun papers, 1942-2010

This collection is composed primarily of correspondence, memoranda, course material, photographs, drawings and slides. The collection is broken down into personal and academic papers. The academic papers pertain mainly to Colquhoun's career as a writer and theoretician and professor at Princeton University's School of Architecture. The personal papers consist mainly of correspondences with friends and family, as well as notebooks, which Colquhoun kept from the 1940s. The visual materials (photographs and drawings) straddle the two categories. Many of the photographs were taken by Colquhoun himself, to be used later in his teaching, while the drawings consist of both student work and reproductions of works from his practice with John Miller. For the majority of the collection, Colquhoun's folder titles have been maintained and the material has been arranged chronologically. The collection is arranged into four series.

Subseries 3: Albums, Notes, and Other Papers includes unfiled notes, documentation and memorabilia

Consists of three subseries: Correspondence, Notebooks, and Albums, Notes, and Other Papers. Colquhoun kept notebooks uninterrupted from 1942, when he was a student in Edinburgh. The material in the notebooks ranges from practical personal information (such as language notes and food ration information in his notebooks from India) to personal notes, among them personal notes and drafts for correspondences, as well as more formal observations on architecture, both in writing and drawing form.

Ralph Walker papers, 1920-1972, bulk 1913-2010

Ralph Walker (1889-1973) was an American architect and president of the American Institute of Architects (A.I.A.) from 1949 to 1951. The majority of the collection consists of personal writings by Walker including essays, poetry, and other manuscripts. There is some correspondence as well as documentation concerning the AIA Censure Walker and his firm received. Beyond this, there is very little relating to Walker's architectural practice.

This collection documents the life and career of Edgar Allen Tafel: New York architect, Frank Lloyd Wright historian, and one of the original apprentices of the Taliesin Fellowship from 1932. The collection primarily documents Tafel's professional activities and his later independent architectural career which was most prominent from 1965-1985. The collection is made up of nine series: Personal Papers, Correspondence, Writings, Professional Papers, Office Records, Project Records, Photographs and Slides, Audio-Visual Material, and Printed Material.

This collection contains correspondence, memos, articles, speeches, lectures, transcripts, clippings, notes, printed matter, photographs, audiotapes, and memorabilia mainly relating to Douglas Haskell's editorship at Architectural Forum and his professional activities. The collection includes items dating from 1866 to 1979, with the majority of materials dating from the period of 1949 to 1964.
