This series contains, in Folder 1, two copies (one clothbound) of the program for the inaugural services of Hastings as professor of sacred rhetoric on September 22, 1881. Folder 2 contains a program for the memorial service held in Hastings' honor on April 28, 1911. Folder 3 contains a travel diary describing a European tour in 1903. Folder 4 contains two photographs: one in which Hastings appears with eleven other men and which may have been taken at Hamilton College and a second that depicts the Eills family and may have been sent to Hastings in celebration of the New Year. Folder 5 contains an additional travel diary describing a European tour in 1883; however, given certain qualities of the diary, such as certain terms employed, the youthful tone of the writing, and devotion to describing works of art and architecture encountered in detail, it appears that it is likely to have been written by Hastings' son, the architect Thomas Hastings (1860-1929). Folder 6 contains a diary of Hastings' father, Thomas Hastings (1784-1872). The volume includes handwritten verse and what appear to be notes regarding hymns, as well as journal entries beginning in 1845.

This series is arranged chronologically, with an index of names and organizations that appear on a frequent basis. Common themes found within this series consist of: editors from various publishers working with Ellis in regard to either his forthcoming books, or forthcoming books written by others. Ellis frequently collaborated on publications (books and journal articles) with other psychologists, as well as those not associated with the psychological field, with regard to RET practices and/or sexually related topics. Individuals contacting Ellis for advice, individuals with comment or questions regarding one of the books or articles he wrote, and individuals seeking information on REBT workshops figure prominently throughout all years encompassed. Much of the correspondence is from faculty of Psychology or Psychiatry departments at various universities. Many are from individuals requesting Ellis's assistance in getting their book/article published. There are memoranda between individuals at the Albert Ellis Institute. Ellis's itineraries and schedules, letters from various psychologists running RET institutes in other locales, both nationally and internationally, and requests for Ellis to speak at conferences, workshops, and symposia are consistent throughout this series. A variety of holiday, birthday, and get well cards can be found as well.

Series V is comprised of five subseries: The first subseries includes material relating to the publication of N.A. Miliutin's Sotsgorod: The Problem of building Socialist Cities. The text was translated from Russian to English by Arthur Sprague as part of his dissertation research. Collins, who served as Sprague's dissertation advisor, edited the translated text. There are files containing the edited manuscript, various drafts, and correspondence. The second subseries includes a selection of Arthur Sprague's graduate school work. There are files containing Sprague's master's essay, as well as various other writings on Soviet architecture. There is also correspondence between George Collins and Sprague, research notes, newspaper clippings. The third subseries includes copies of the papers delivered during the 1974 American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies and Columbia University Russian Institute's Conference on "The Cultural Revolution in Russia, 1928-1933." The fourth subseries includes numerous papers authored by Frederick Starr, an American expert of Russian and Eurasain affairs. There are also images for Starr's book Melnikov Solo Architect in a Mass Society, and correspondence between Starr and Collins. The fifth subseries is comprised of general material including newspaper clippings, journal articles, and numerous writings about Soviet architecture and city planning.

This series includes Feinberg's articles and speeches, as well as correspondence and research material relating to them. In addition to correspondence, offprints, reprints, and typescripts, materials include clippings, drafts, and notes. The files of research material collect ideas for potential future topics.

This series contains substantial correspondence regarding publications, lectures, addresses, invitations to speak, correspondence with certain institutions and individuals, and other professional and personal correspondence. The bulk of correspondence is from the period of McGiffert's presidency at Union Theological Seminary (1917-1926). Some of the publications included in that grouping of correspondence (Folders 1-7) are: "God of the Early Christians," Martin Luther, the Man and His Work, and The Rise of Modern Religious Ideas. Some of the publishers included in that grouping of correspondence (Folders 8-15) are: The American Journal of Theology, The Christian Work, The Macmillan Company, and Charles Scribner's Sons. The correspondence in Box 5, folder 12 is related to McGiffert's summer property in West Falmouth, Massachusetts, as well as a boat and car used there. The correspondence in Box 5, Folder 13 relates to financial matters both personal, such as payment of income tax and investments, and UTS-related, such as payment for a new chapel window and messages seeking to improve telephone service for the president. The correspondence in Box 6, Folder 1 is connected to the McGiffert family and includes writings from family members such as Rev. Dwight F. Mowery, one of McGiffert's sons-in-law, and James H. McGiffert, a cousin of McGiffert and an attorney at the National City Bank in Cleveland, Ohio.

This series contains some printed materials--pamphlets and newspaper articles pertaining to ACG and major events in the Near East. News clippings date from the early 1900s to the late 1940s and include portrait photographs with brief biographical data on some faculty members (Box 33, Folders 1-2). There are fundraising pamphlets and brochures dating to 1907 and 1909. Materials relating to official events at the college include a richly detailed scrapbook containing Charter Day speeches, extracts from letters, commencement programs, news clippings and memorabilia covering the period from the 1880s to 1907 (Box 34, Folder 1: This material is fragile).

This series provides a framework for understanding key sociological studies and projects conducted by Merton in the mid-twentieth century. Project documentation includes analyses of publications, general surveys, and proposed project topics. Study materials, which comprise the bulk of the series, cover Merton's early sociological pursuits, mainly while he was involved with the Bureau of Applied Social Research at Columbia University. Of note are original interviews, questionnaires, and journals of study participants, which provide an unfiltered look at American social thought and attitude regarding social and cultural issues, education, and careers. These are particularly evidenced in the Ethnic Opinionnaires completed in the 1940s. The records also reflect the evolution of Merton's studies into larger bodies of work, such as publications and conferences. This series is particularly important as it illuminates early social research methodology. A good portion of the records include notes, proposals for funding, drafts of questionnaires, and memoranda related to execution of studies. The studies were also used in Merton's courses and seminars at Columbia University as a means of teaching sociology students about research practices.

This series contains reports, bulletins, articles and newspaper clippings, personal accounts, speeches, conference notes, strategic plans, correspondence, and other papers from Robert C. Dodds' participation in the National Council of Churches, the Fourth Session of the Second Vatican Council, and the ninth meeting of the Consultation on Church Union. Vatican II documents include a copy of the Directorium Oecumenicum, addresses given by the pope and council observers, a list of invited delegates and observers to the council, liturgical materials, official Vatican news bulletins and press documents, newspaper clippings, and Vatican maps. Post-Vatican II material relates to Dodds' involvement in conferences and other efforts after Vatican II to further the ecumenical mission of the council and move towards the goal of Christian unity, and includes papers from the "Dialogue on Post Council Themes" held in Rome directly after the council in 1965, Dodds' prospectus for a television series documenting reactions from the delegate of observers to the council, materials from the Notre Dame International Conference on "Theological Issues of Vatican II" held in 1966, the agenda for a meeting held between the National Council of Churches and the Vatican Secretary for Christian Unity in 1969, and reports on the National Council of Churches delegation to the Vatican, which document the relationshi between the National Council of Churches and the Roman Catholic Church. National Council of Churches materials include a paper written by Dodds on race relations and the civil rights movement within the church, a consultation with Daedalus Quarterly to discuss the possibility of publishing an ecumenical journal, planning documents, and a copy of the Plan of Union distributed during the ninth meeting of the Consultation on Church Union in 1970. Other materials include Dodds' personal correspondence primarily during his participation at and after Vatican II, his personal notes and diary from his time in Rome, and articles written by Dodds as well as published materials that he collected.

This series primarily consists of letters written to and from Kennedy during her scholarly career. Kennedy kept carbon copies of many of her own letters, including those she wrote to Samuel Beckett. (Kennedy had pasted her letters to Beckett in a protective binder, from which they have been removed and which left their pages striped by glue.) Other correspondents include: Mary Doll, Richard Ellman, John Fletcher, James Gilvarry, Stanley E. Gontarski, Lawrence E. Harvey, John Kelly, James Knowlson, A.J. Leventhal, Jérôme Lindon (of Les Éditions de Minuit, Beckett's French publisher), George O. Marshall, Jr., W. Kelly Morris and Richard Schechner (of the Tulane Drama Review), Eoin T. O'Brien, John Pilling, and representatives of the Columbia, Dartmouth, Ohio State, Texas, and Washington University Libraries, of the Modern Language Association, and scholarly publishers the Associated University Press, Bucknell University Press, and Princeton University Press. Of note are the letters from TDR's Morris and editor Schechner (later a professor at New York University and a major figure in the field of performance studies); they are two very harsh critiques of Kennedy's first journal article attempt. That Kennedy, then still a graduate student, kept the letters is illustrative of her character.
