Collections

The collection contains 290 drawings by American architect William Gehron for projects in the New York area. Projects represented are: Queens Borough Hall, 1939-40 (74 drawings); P.S. 191, 1952 (25 drawings); Convalescent Day Camp, Welfare Island, 1937 (15 drawings); Micellaneous Housing Projects, 1935 (25 drawings); Proposed Plaza for Broadway and 122nd Street, 1936 (1 drawing); World War II Memorial in Watermill, Long Island, NY, 1950 (6 drawings); Harlem Hospital OPD, 1939 (77 drawings); Studies for MacDonald Observatory, 1931 (28 drawings); and Utica State Hospital, 1949 (41 drawings). An rendering by Hugh Ferriss of the State Educational Building and Memorial Pylons in Harrisburg, PA was donated in 2004 (acq. 2004.005).

This collection contains primarily project records, including drawings, files, specifications, correspondence, and photographs, related to the architectural practice of William & Geoffrey Platt. Projects including commercial, institutional, and residential buildings located in Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, and France. The firm was involved in the design of many buildings and additions for institutions such as the Pierpoint Morgan Library, Princeton University, Smith College, and Deerfield Academy.

This collection consists of journalist William G. Lambert's (1920-1998) collected investigative materials such as correspondence, news clippings, notes, notebooks, photographs and transcripts related to his award winning reporting for The Oregonian, Portland, and for Life magazine. In 1957, Lambert and his college Wallace Turner received the Pulitzer Prize for their reporting, which uncovered widespread vice and corruption within the municipal Portland city government that involved labor union officials of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen and Helpers of America, Western Conference. In 1970, Lambert accepted the George Polk Award for his Life magazine reporting, which revealed that Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas accepted and later returned a suspect $20,000 fee, spurring Fortas' resignation.

This collection includes personal and professional correspondence of botany professor William G. Marquette. There are also some handwritten notes and publications.

Correspondence, manuscripts, notes, drafts, photographs, tapes, clippings, printed material, and memorabilia covering the career of William Goldman.

Drawings are primarily for residential commissions in and around New York City, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Some manuscript and photographic materials are also included in the collection.

Letters concerning academic matters and student discipline at Columbia College. Most of the letters are addressed to the Rev. Dr. William Harris.

Correspondence, manuscripts, and printed material by and about Reeves. Included are single letters from Justice William O. Douglas and Jesus De Galindez, printed articles by Reeves on law and his manuscript article on the U.S. treatment of enemy property after World War II, printed works by others on international law and international reparations in 1945.
