Album contains photostats of original drawings sent to Washington, D.C. for the War Department and Navy Buildings. The architects for the project include Corbett, Harrison & MacMurrary; Holabird & Root; and James C. Mackenzie.

Five original etchings depicting buildings on the campus of Columbia University. Each etching is signed and dated by the artist "Ernest D. Roth / 1938". Each print is in ecellent condition within an original mat and protected by original tissue guards. Four of the original six printed lables are present. The prints and labels have been preserved in the original buckram portfolio titled "Columbia Etchings / By Ernest D. Roth, N.A. / Columbia University Press." All are in excellent condition. The drawings are on extended loan to the Columbia University Alumni Center.

Photographs, lantern slides, and illustrations of numerous library buildings in the United States and throughout the world, circa late 19th through early 20th centuries. Of particular note are photographs, undated, of people (possibly faculty and students) at New York Public Library's library school.

This collection contains reprographic architectural drawings for the Empire State Building; photographs of the demolition of the original Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, which occupied the Fifth Avenue site; photographs of the Empire State Building under construction, circa 1930-1931 (one photograph shows former governor Alfred E. Smith standing in the building during construction), including 232 photographs by photographer Lewis Hine; photographs showing the building after completion, circa 1931-1956; scrapbooks of clippings of articles about the building, 1930-1957; and illustrations of the Empire State Building, circa 1930s-1960s. This volume contains pasted-in accounting sheets of building construction and operational financial costs -- including detailed information about contractors, suppliers, utilities, square footage, and employees -- for a variety of bulding types in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. Buildings are primarily identified by address; a few by name only.
