Subseries 6: Editorship, 1958-2007

Scope and content:

Baraka's work as an editor of various literary, arts, and political journals and little magazines is the focus of this series. Included are the typescripts and galleys of individual issues, correspondence and internal editorial matter, drafts of individual submissions and published items, artwork, and published material forYugen,Cricket,The Black Nation,Rising Tide,and, most comprehensively, the political newsletter and newspaperUnity & Struggle.The material is arranged alphabetically by journal or magazine title.

Access and use

Parent restrictions:

This collection is located on site.

Boxes 82a, 82b, and 82c are located off-site. You will need to request this material at least three business days in advance to use the collection in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library reading room.

Material containing information about Baraka's students or that have personal information or grades about students are restricted for 75 years from the month of creation.

Unique time-based media items have been reformatted and are available onsite via links in the container list. Commercial materials are not routinely digitized. Email rbml@columbia.edu for more information.

Reproductions may be made for research purposes. The RBML maintains ownership of the physical material only. Copyright remains with the creator and his/her heirs. The responsibility to secure copyright permission rests with the patron.
