This collection consists of the records of the Oral History Research Office at Columbia University. The records include correspondence, annual reports, course materials, program files and the founding documents of the Oral History Association. It also documents the everyday work of managing the collections: reference questions, requests to access materials, permission to publish interview texts, etc.

In 1948 History Professor Allan Nevins created the first oral history program at Columbia University. The Oral History Research Office (OHRO) had as its mission the recording, transcribing, and preserving oral history interviews.
