Scope and content:: Ms. Purpura's papers consist primarily of class notes and term papers from various courses taken at The New York School of Social Work. In addition, the collection includes course outlines, reading lists, bibliographies, interviews, case studies observations, newspaper clippings, and magazine reprints.
Biographical / historical:: Rachel Anne (Reynolds) Purpura was a graduate student at Columbia University's New York School of Social Work during 1942-1943. Her career focused on the reform of institutional bureaucracy. She volunteered in several committees at the central branch of the Brooklyn YWCA. As an undergraduate, she majored in Economics and Sociology, and received her B.A. degree from Mount Holyoke College in 1940.
