Scope and content:

Mel'nikov's manuscripts include his memoirs, "19 let na zemskoi sluzhbe: avtobiograficheskie nabroski i vospominaniia" (371 p.), describing in detail his service in governmental posts. Several other manuscripts in the collection discuss general problems of Russian developments and also his views on a future, non-Soviet Russia.

Addition of 2023: typescript of Mel'nikov's speech "Russkoe zemstvo v proshlom i nekotorye mysli ob ego buushchem" (40 pages) delivered at the "Kruzhok k poznaniiu Rossii", Paris, Jan. 31, 1933

Biographical / historical:

Nikolai Aleksandrovich Mel'nikov (1872 - 1951) served in the Kazan zemstvo in 1898-1917, and on the zemstvo movement in general. He was also an Octobrist who served in the 3rd State Duma.
