The Flora Davidson Collection contains materials relating to the scholarly and administrative work of Flora Davidson, during her time at Barnard as a Professor of Urban Studies and Political Science, and an administrator in a variety of roles, including Associate Dean of Faculty and Associate Provost. Materials in the collection span the years of 1971 to 2013, with the bulk of materials falling in the range of 1980 to 2010.
Collection materials include meeting minutes, correspondence, and personal notes relating to the committee work undertaken by Flora. Of particular note are the materials relating to the creation, implementation, and assessment of the Pre-College Program, other activities of the Committee on Events, and minutes and personal notes relating to the Committee on Instruction.
The collection also houses materials from Flora's scholarship on issues of rent control and housing policy, speeches given on electoral politics in America, and copies of reviews written by by Flora for a variety of colleagues' work. Additionally, the collection contains Flora Davidson's course preparation materials for a variety of Political Science and Urban Studies courses.
- Biographical / historical:

Professor Flora Davidson received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in Political Science, and taught at New York University, before coming to teach at Barnard in 1973. She is also a Barnard College alumna. Professor Davidson taught classes in Barnard College's Political Science and Urban Studies departments, on topics including American government, urban politics and policy, and political leadership, and served as an advisor to Political Science and Urban Studies majors. Her research interests include how political leadership affects political outcomes, urban politics and policy, and New York City housing policies.
In addition to her teaching, Professor Davidson served as Associate Provost of Barnard College from 1995-2008, as Acting Dean of the Faculty in 1994-1995, and as Associate Dean of the Faculty beginning in 1990. From 1984 - 1990, she served as Dean for special academic programs where she created a number of summer programs, including Barnard's Pre-College Program for high school students. Flora Davidson retired in July of 2014.
