This collection contains Committee on Programs and Academic Standing meeting minutes and reports, mostly from the 1920s-early 1960s. Additionally, this collection contains correspondence regarding pass-fail status between students and commmittee members from 1968-1970.

Biographical / historical:

This committee has gone through many name iterations as shown throughout the collection. The first name was the Committee on Students' Programs from 1923-1949; then the Committee on Programs and Standing from 1950-1960; in 1968 the current name, the Committee on Programs and Academic Standings, was adopted. In 1949 the charge of the committee was described as "administering the educational policies of the faculty formulated by the Committee on Instruction. It considers: 1) change of major, 2) courses to be taken in other schools of the university, in summer session or during the Junior Year Abroad. It also considers applications for credit for one-half of an indivisible course, and gives approval for variable point courses" (see Barnard Bulletin, December 15, 1949, page 1). As of 2024, the committee was described as "an appointed faculty committee charged with regularly reviewing educational policy in matters of student programs, credit, and academic standing. The Committee acts on student petitions for exceptions to academic policy."
