This collection contains materials that document the history of the Spanish Department at Barnard College. Included in the collection are memos, flyers, pamphlets, recital sheets, receipts for, and invitations to events presented by the Spanish Department. Items of particular note are a book about Julio Cortazar at Barnard College, Prof. Marica Welles' tenure proceedings, and fundraising campaign documents from the 1940's.

Any materials that discuss confidential personnel matters (such as tenure proceedings) are restricted for 75 years form their date of creation, as per the Archive's policy. Some faculty tenure documents in folder 1 are restricted.
