Theatrical memorabilia such as programs, playbills, photographs, engravings, and prints. Although there are some playbills as early as 1770, most of the material is from the 19th and 20th centuries. In addition to plays there is some material relating to concerts, operettas, musical comedies, musical revues, and movies. The majority of the collection centers around Shakespeare. Included with an unbound copy of each play (The Edinburgh Shakespeare Folio Edition) there are portraits, engravings, and photographs of actors in their roles; playbills; programs; cast lists; other types of illustrative material; reviews of various productions; and other printed material. Such well known names as George Arliss, Sarah Bernhardt, the Booths, John Drew, the Barrymores, and William Gillette are included in this collection.

Kitman writes about a variety of topics as he criticizes practically every television program and genre from the 1960s through 2003. There are also a few files of letters, as well as his various "polls".

The collection documents the career and personal life of Trinidadian-born Black British activist and journalist Darcus Howe (1943-2017). Howe was best known as a defendant in the 1971 Mangrove Nine trial, a founding member of the Race Today Collective and editor of its journal, Race Today, and a producer of television series and documentary films for the British television station Channel 4. There is also material from the later life of Howe's cousin, the prominent intellectual, postcolonial writer, and activist C. L. R. James (1901-1989).

The collection includes drafts of his work, professional and personal correspondence, emails (both digital and in hard copy), notebooks, dream journals, heavily annotated books, lecture notes, teaching materials, photographs and ephemera. Several RBML collections already contain correspondence with Berman. For scholars, this collection will provide important new insights into the thought and work of a leading late-20th-century New York City intellectual. An important segment of the Marshall Berman papers consists of digital materials connected with his more recent work as a writer, scholar, and teacher. The files are currently stored on his home computer.
