Correspondence, papers, manuscripts, documents, photographs, and printed materials. Much of the correspondence concerns his American teaching and lecture engagements, primarily at the University of Louisville. There are also letters from his colleagues in France, including Françoise Van Rossum-Guyon, with a copy of her Introduction to an edition of Balzac's LE PÈRE GORIOT with Butor's critical letter for the publisher. There are critical and biographical manuscripts about Butor, and several printed works, each inscribed with a note by its author.

The papers include correspondence, manuscripts, and printed materials. The manuscripts include drafts of several of his novels, including the two mentioned above, and of his non-fiction works, such as "Paragvaĭskai︠a︡ nadezhda" and "Belogvardeĭt︠s︡y na Balkanakh." Printed materials include clippings and copies of several of his books. Also in the collection are manuscripts of poems and stories, and copies of two books by his father, Dmitriĭ V. Karachevskiĭ-Karateev.

The collection consists of published works and writings, including drafts, articles and reprints, drafts for "Halls of the Ancestors", field notes and research, lectures, papers presented and miscellaneous reports as well as correspondence and reports from his travels.

Collection includes 19 manuscript notebooks of poetry and prose; 42 titled articles in typescript form on religious, political, literary and autobiographical topics; several published collections of her poetry; and a folder of original drawings. Also included are three biographical articles by K. Mochulśkiĭ, M. Vishni︠a︡k and her mother Sofii︠a︡ Borisovna Pilenko, as well as her own childhood and that of her mother and grandmother during the era of Alexander I, Nicholas I, and Alexander II.

Among the correspondents are: Mikhail Chekhov, Olga Chekhov, Roman Gul, Vladimir Ilin, Artur Luther, Sergei Melgunov, Bishop Serafim, Fedor Stepun, Ilia Surguchev, Alexandra Tolstoy, and Vladimir Zenzinov.
