This subseries provides an insight into both the administrative side of the Boehm Foundation and its grant-giving process, by including checklists for each grantee organization of relevant data about their application such as the date it was submitted and the amount of money given by the Boehm Foundation. Internal Revenue Service rulings certifying that the grantee organizations had non-profit status for the purposes of the Boehm Foundation's gifts are also present in many cases.

The Boehm Foundation gave out hundreds of small (usually valued at $5,000 or less) one-year grants from 1988-2003. This subseries contains information pertaining to those grants, including a substantial amount of correspondence between the Boehm Foundation and their various grantee organizations. The records in this subseries include letters of inquiry, grant proposals, progress reports, and letters of gratitude. Many of the grantee organizations also included with their correspondence supplementary materials such as publications, flyers, or news clippings relating to the group. In most cases, these materials have been arranged alongside the letters with which they were enclosed.

In January 2001, the Boehm Foundation changed its grant guidelines to focus its spending on two categories of multi-year grants: New Leaders Grants and Capacity Building Grants. As the brochure describing New Leaders Grants put it, they were designed to be "two-year general support grants ranging in size from $7,500 to $10,000 per year." New Leaders grants were intended to "support grassroots organizations that nurture progressive new activists and young leaders through work on specific public/private policy campaigns that address the Foundation's areas of concern." The material included in this subseries includes correspondence about the grant process, ranging from letters of inquiry to proposals to progress reports to published materials relating to the grantee organization's activities.

This subseries documents the growth of theBOMB Website and the creation of the Online Archive and "BOMBLive!," a web-based interview series that was established in 2001. The bulk of the records are audio cassettes of online audio material used for "BOMBLive!" as well as cassettes of other published and unpublished interviews that are not associated with a particular issue. Printed matter consists of correspondence, legal records, such as contracts and release forms, exhibition and artist catalogues, and original manuscripts and magazine galleys created by author Phillip Lopate. Photographs, slides and negatives, or profiled artists and artwork are also found in this subseries.

The Art Program records document the planning and execution of this financially based initiative. The files consist of artist's biographical material, correspondence, reviews, exhibition catalogues, artist catalogues, and press clippings. Visual material is well represented in the form of photographs and slides of the individual pieces of art. Some digital files may be found in this subseries containing scanned images of artwork and word documents concerning the artists and their work. Several original pieces of artwork are held in the collection by the artists Keith Haring, William Wegman, Billy Copley, and Tina Girouard.

Subseries Two is comprised of records concerning the fiscal operations ofBOMB Magazine. Included are budgets and ledgers, correspondence with board members and donors, donor lists, general mailing lists, financial statements, contracts in regards to otherBOMB publications, subscription and distribution information. There are also records for grant applications, most notably the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).

This subseries contains lectures, addresses, sermons, and other speeches by Cone; flyers, posters, and clippings of speaking engagements by or featuring Cone; as well as correspondence and other materials regarding arrangements or otherwise related to speaking engagements by Cone. Materials are both typed and handwritten, sometimes with notes and edits or markers of speech rhythms. Some folders contain multiple drafts or versions.

This subseries contains files related to projects and committees to which Cone contributed or was involved in, inlcuding the Black Theology Project and the National Committee of Black Churchmen.

This subseries contains folders of handwritten notes, as well as handwritten notes on legal notepads, on a variety of topics that Cone used in classes, publications, and lectures.

Manuscripts, drafts, notes, correspondence, and related items for her projected autobiography which included family history, her grandfather (Col. Wilbert Barton Teters) and his Civil War experiences, her childhood in New York City and in Colorado, life with her mother (Wilbertine Teters Worden), her career in journalism, her travels, and her marriages to John Erskine and to William Henry Harrison Cranmer. She published many articles based on her childhood and on her mother's adventures. Guy Bolton's play, Jenny Kissed Me, was based on her memoirs of her mother. There are also many genealogical notes on the Teters, Wordens, and other related families.

Manuscripts, typescripts, memoranda, notes, correspondence, tape cassettes, transcripts, photographs, clippings, and other related materials for her biographical articles and columns for magazines and newspapers and for her books and planned books.

Newspaper articles, drafts, planned books, clippings, notes, and correspondence about crime and trials, primarily in New York City, Helen Worden was a crime reporter for the New York World-Telegram from 1937 until 1944. Later she appeared on "The $64,000 Challenge" television program with crime as her specialty.
