This collection is a group of letters from various authors to Herbert Harris, editor of RED HERRINGS, the Association's bulletin of news in the field of crime writing. Among the correspondents are John Dickson Carr, John Creasey, C. Day-Lewis, John le Carré, and Julian Symons.

These records were used in the investigation of waterfront crime, 1952-1953, including research, drafts and published reports of the recommendations of the Crime Commission, correspondence and memorandums, charts and financial statements, newspaper clippings, Acts pertaining to and resulting from the work of the Crime Commission; notes and transcripts of public hearing testimony, including three volumes of Ogdensburg Public Hearings held at Canton, N.Y., July 18-20, 1951.

Papers of the Society, including correspondence among the officers and directors of the Society, memoranda, reports, legal papers, minutes, financial records, radio scripts, clippings, scrapbooks, comic books, and a subject file of pamphlets and clippings on all aspects of crime prevention. Also, an extensive history of the Society.

This collection consists of journalist William G. Lambert's (1920-1998) collected investigative materials such as correspondence, news clippings, notes, notebooks, photographs and transcripts related to his award winning reporting for The Oregonian, Portland, and for Life magazine. In 1957, Lambert and his college Wallace Turner received the Pulitzer Prize for their reporting, which uncovered widespread vice and corruption within the municipal Portland city government that involved labor union officials of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen and Helpers of America, Western Conference. In 1970, Lambert accepted the George Polk Award for his Life magazine reporting, which revealed that Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas accepted and later returned a suspect $20,000 fee, spurring Fortas' resignation.

Transcripts of pre-trial interrogations, mostly conducted by Miller, and statements taken under oath for the Nuremberg Trials relating chiefly to the indictment against I.G. Farbenindustrie. These interrogations and statements concern industrial productions, 1930-1945, the Four-Year Plan, mobilization, propoganda, intelligence organizations, connection with the Nazi Party, slave labor, and concentration camps, especially Auschwitz. They do not represent a complete record of the investigation and indictment of I.G. Farben.

The collection includes seven volumes of scrapbooks containing clippings on current affairs roughly between 1939 and 1950 with particular reference to the trials of the German War Criminals at Nuremberg and the state of Germany after World War II. Also, general items on President Franklin Roosevelt and U.S. foreign policy. There are several complete copies of newspapers folded and inserted in the scrapbooks. The second and more important part of the collection consists of typescripts of Dr. Pfeiffenberger's writings. These occupy one and one-half manuscript boxes (Boxes 4 and 5). Included are about 45 pages of poetry in German, about 120 pages of selected stories of New York Life (in German), about 30 pages on The European State-System, 1848-1890 (in German), 127 pages of manuscript entitled "The Spirit of the Code of Hammurabi" (this is a preliminary draft in English of a short book or article by Pfeiffenberger), about 305 pages of typescript on "Compensation in the Western Zone of Germany" by Pfeiffenberger, Dr. H. Klein, and Dr. Klavehn-Berndt (there are many changes and notes in script, and this item is accompanied by another typescript of approximately the same size on the same subject), and several other items.
