DescriptionScope and ContentsThis collection contains correspondence between Union Theological Seminary and Fordham University while Edwin O. Kennedy served as the secretary of the Seminary, as well as Kennedy's two-part biographical essay, written while he was in his 70s. Part two, added first, is entitled "The Days of My Years: Another Decade 1971 – 1981." Part one, added later, is entitled "The Days of My Years: An Autobiography."

Immediate Source of AcquisitionThe exact provenance of material contained in folders 1 and 2 is unknown. "The Days of My Years: An Autobiography, 1971" was donated by the Mohonk Mountain House Archives, received by Leah Edelman, and added to the collection in February 2020. History / Biographical NoteBiographical / HistoricalEdwin Oliver Kennedy was born in New York City on January 31, 1900. He attended Union College then went on to Union Theological Seminary from 1921−1924 to earn a Bachelor of Divinity before being ordained by the Presbytery Church of Albany on April 18, 1924. Edwin O. Kennedy served as pastor of the Ridgeview Community Presbyterian Church in West Orange, New Jersey from 1924−1934. He worked as associate professor of practical theology as well as Secretary and President of the Alumni Association at Union Theological Seminary from 1952 until his retirement in 1966. Union College and Carroll College both awarded him an honorary Doctorate in Divinity, and he retired from ministry in 1984. He died on October 3, 1997 in Washington Township, New Jersey. |
