Processing Information

Lecture notes were cataloged by Lynn A. Grove on 1988-07-14. The Stimson papers were among a large group of papers that were organized in 2016-2018 with the support of the Henry Luce Foundation and the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation; material was maintained in its original binding, secured with cotton ties, and re-housed in standard archival folders and housing. The finding aid was created by Rebecca Nieto in 2018 and edited by Leah Edelman in 2020.

Biographical / Historical

Henry Albert Stimson was an American clergyman born in 1842. Stimson resided in New York City and attended Union Theological Seminary between 1866 and 1869, where he sat in on lectures by Roswell D. Hitchcock and W.G.T. Shedd. During his lifetime he published a number of books on preaching and Protestantism, including Questions of Modern Inquiry; A Series of Discussions (1895), The Place of Christian Education in the Civilization of the West (1881), The New Things of God: Sermons (1908), and Behind the World and Beyond (1910). Stimson died on July 18, 1936.
