Processing Information

Materials were re-housed in mylar sleeves and acid-free folders and placed in acid-free boxes. The finding aid, including a folder-level inventory and series-level description, was created by Leah Edelman in 2024.

Biographical / Historical

The Burke Library at Union Theological Seminary (UTS) was founded in 1836. For most of its history it was known as the Library of Union Theological Seminary, and in 1983 was renamed in honor of Walter Burke, a board member and generous benefactor of the Seminary. In 2004, the Burke Library became a member of the Columbia University Libraries system. Its historical and current collection strengths include: the history of Christianity and ancient Judaism, theology, biblical studies, ecumenical and interreligious history, and social ethics.
