In 1957 Robert G. Davis arrived at Columbia as a visiting professor. He became an active member of community, and in the turbulence of 1968, he worked to bring peace to campus by serving as secretary of the executive committee of the faculty. He also helped open the University Senate to more student input. Davis retired in 1976.
