Biographical / Historical
The Ivy Group, founded in 1954 by agreement of the presidents of the eight Ivy League schools, is a Division 1-AA conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and includes some of the nation's oldest intercollegiate athletic programs, traditions and rivalries. The 1954 covenant of the Ivy Group presidents formalized the league and its academics-first philosophy. The Group develops rules for League athletic competition. Roger Lehecka, Dean of Columbia College, served as chairman of the Ivy Group's Policy Committee from 1991 to 1994.
