ArrangementArrangementThis collection is arranged in three series: Series I: Academic Costumes; Series II: Textiles; Series III: Class Flags.
DescriptionSummaryThis collection consists primarily of academic robes and hoods of various Columbia professors and administrators, especially those given to these individuals for honorary degrees at other universities. The collection also contains some other textile materials, including the Women's Banner or Butler Library Banner (in two parts), Columbia College banners and flags, and some crew sweaters. Additional textiles can be found in the University Artifacts Collection (UA#0016).
Using the CollectionRare Book and Manuscript Library Restrictions on AccessYou will need to make an appointment in advance to use this collection material in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library reading room. You can schedule an appointment once you've submitted your request through your Special Collections Research Account. Due to the nature of the items in this collection, access must be arranged with the University Archivist (uarchives@columbia.edu).
