This collection consists of the administrative records maintained by the Pulitzer Prize Office documenting the awarding of the various Pulitzer Prizes in Journalism and in Letters, Drama and Music since 1917.

This collection consists of the office files maintained by the Pulitzer Prize staff and Board. Materials include correspondence, drafts of press releases and other standard office files. Materials do not include original jury reports, published press releases, entry lists or Board minutes.

Biographical / historical:

The Pulitzer Prizes were established by Joseph Pulitzer, a Hungarian-American journalist and newspaper publisher, who left money to Columbia University upon his death in 1911. Pulitzer's endowment included the formation of the Pulitzer Prize for journalism, music, drama, and literature, established in 1917. The Pulitzer Prizes are administered by Columbia University.
