Scope and content:

Correspondence, reports, memoranda, manuscripts, photographs, clippings and other printed materials belonging to Francis Taylor Pearsons Plimpton (1900-1983). These papers deal mainly with his service as a delegate to the United Nations, member of the New York City Bar Association, and his career as a lawyer and appointed official in New York City. Among the correspondents are: Edward Koch, John Lindsay, Thomas Mann, Samuel I. Roseman, and Adlai E. Stevenson.

Biographical / historical:

Francis Taylor Pearsons Plimpton (1900-1983) was a lawyer, diplomat, and trustee. Ambassador Plimpton was a member of the United States Delegation to the United Nations from 1961 until 1980, president of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York from 1968 to 1970, and active in New York City government.

Francis T. P. Plimpton was born in New York City on December 7, 1900 to George A. and Frances Taylor Plimpton. He attended Philips Exeter Academy, Amherst College, and Harvard Law School. He married Pauline Ames in 1926; they had four children. He died in Huntington, New York, on July 30, 1983.
