Photo taken in Taipei, Taiwan (Then known as Formosa), 1970. Lto R- Edith Chang (Vi di Chao), wife of the Young Marshal Chang Hsiao Liang; Tania Elder, wife of Jim Elder; and the Young Marshal, Chang Hsiao Liang, then know by his Christian name, Peter Chang. At the time this photo was taken, the Young Marshal was under "House Arrest" confined to his home except in the company of a Nationalist Chinese military officer by orders of Chiang Kai Shek dating back to the Sian Incident in December, 1936. Chang's house arrest finally ended in 1991 after the death of both Chiang Kai Shek and Chiang Kai Shek's son.

Bottom row, far right, the Young Marshal, Chang Hsiao Liang; bottom row center, Jim Elder; top row second from left Will Rogers, film and Broadway actor and commentator and an admirer of the Young Marshal as a humanitarian leader whose most important goal was the betterment of the Chinese people. Others in the photo are members of Chang's civilian government in Manchuria (finance, economy, rail transportation) that lasted until the Japanese Kwantung Army invasion of Mukden in September, 1931.

Monte was the Young Marshal's banker with National City Bank in New York and close friend of Jim Elder and the Young Marshal.

L to R - Monte Cochran, the Young Marshal's banker with National City Bank in New York; Bobby Chang, son of the Young Marshal and Edith; Jim Elder; Raymond Chang, son of the Young Marshal and his first wife, Yu Feng Tze. At the Young Marshal's direction, Jim Elder managed Chang Hsiao Liang's finances at National City Bank through Monte Cochran, a senior officer of NCB and served as the Marshal's personal liaison with his family ever since his house arrest by Chiang Kai Shek dating back to the Sian Incident in 1936. In accordance with Chang Hsiao Liang's wishes, Jim was instrumental in ensuring that finances from the Marshal's account at NCB were being provided to the Marshal's first wife, Yu Feng Te, and the Marshal's children, all of whom were living in California. Other three photos taken at the same location and time with the same four persons.

Photo taken at the Hwangkutun village, Mukden, Manchuria, rail terminal of the Peking-Mukden Line, 1912. L to R - Jim Elder, age 9, Young Marshal, Chang Liang (Han Chen, his courtesy name), age 11; and Hugh Elder, Jim Elder's father. Hugh was the Manager of the Tientsin- Hwangkutun segment of the PML and became the confident and advisor to the Young Marshal's father, Chang Tso-lin, Warlord of Manchuria and the most influential and powerful warlord in all of China between 1916 and 1928. The PM terminated in Hwangkutun since the remaining three miles of track into Mukden was owned and operated by the Japanese as the South Manchurian Railway under their Concession conglomerate, Mantetsu.

Invitation from Chang Hsiao Liang to the Elder family sent via the British Club (also known as the Mukden Club) to the Young Marshal's supper dance at his Peiling estate, Mukden, on October 10, 1930, in honor of National Day, 19th Year of the Republic. "Madame Chiang Hsiao Liang" refers to Yu Feng Tze, the Young Marshal's wife, since he couldn't marry Edith until Yu Feng Te finally gave him permission to do so in 1976.
