The collection concerns Irish nationalism, family matters, Purroy family business interests in Central America, the John Purroy Mitchel Memorial and William Brown Meloney's files relating to his research and writing of "The Story of John Purroy Mitchel" along with the manuscript and typescript drafts for this unpublished biography.

  Oversized. Portraits and Photographs of the Mitchel and Purroy Families in 3 solander cases and an oil painting and silver plate.

  Genealogical Note: John Mitchel married Jane Verner. Captain John C. Mitchel and James Mitchel were their sons. James married Mary Purroy, daughter of John B. Purroy. James and Mary (Purroy) Mitchel had a son, John Purroy Mitchel, who married Olive Child (daughter of Franklin D. Child). William H. Mitchel, who married Mary _____, was a brother of John Mitchel.
