Scope and content:

Mitchell's corrected manuscripts and correspondence and notes pertaining to them. Personal correspondence, including some with her husband, Wesley Clair Mitchell, forms only a small part of the collection. Also, notes and letters related to various projects in which she was involved and two boxes of photographs and drawings.

Biographical / historical:

Educator, author. Mitchell was a prominent advocate of experimental education, founder of the Bank Street College of Education, and author of numerous books for children.

Restrictions:

The following boxes are located off-site: Boxes 2-32. You will need to request this material at least three business days in advance to use the collection in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library reading room. Boxes 1, 33, and flat box 336 are located onsite.

This collection has no restrictions.
