Scope and Contents

The material is in a small but clear 18th-century hand.

Sixty-two manuscript sermons written by Kneeland and preached in various Connecticut towns. The sermons found in this collection were written between 1770 and 1777 and were preached in various Connecticut towns. Kneeland often delivered the same sermon several times, carefully marking the date and place of preaching on the manuscript. The material is in a small but clear 18th-century hand.

Biographical / Historical

Reverend Ebenezer Kneeland (died 1777) was the son-in-law of William Samuel Johnson, the third president of King's College. Kneeland received an Honorary Master of Arts Degree from King's College in 1769.
