This collection includes correspondence with a number of people, including Horatio Hale, William H. Samson, William Kirby, George S. Conover, and others, and pertains to research, publication, and other enterprises regarding prominent individuals such as Red Jacket and Joseph Brant, and the Cherry Valley Massacre. Correspondence includes linguistic, genealogical, and historical information, including sensitive content.

Biographical / historical:

William Clement Bryant (1830-1898) came to Buffalo, NY in 1854 to practice law. While in NY, he also served as the president of the Buffalo Historical Society in 1876, and as president of the Thomas Orphan Asylum. He had a deep interest in the lives of the Indigenous people around him, particularly the Iroquois, and did personal and public research on the history of Buffalo and surrounding areas relating to Indigenous peoples.
