Anna N. Bykowska, nurse in the Polish army, in September 1939 was captured by the Soviet occupiers in eastern Poland, imprisoned in a number of Soviet prisons, and then sent to Siberia. In the winter of 1941-1942, when General Anders' Army was being formed from Polish prisoners of war in the USSR, she was able to leave Soviet territory and went with a military hospital to Persia. Her relatives didn't know anything of her fate from 1939 to 1958.
