Most of the letters, which comprise the bulk of the collection, were written to Chekver in the late 1940s and 1950s by such emigre writers as David Knut, Aleksei Remizov, and Iurii Terapiano. Also included are verses by some of Chekver's correspondents (such as Knut, Igorʹ Chinov, and Vasilii Sumbatov), photographs of Knut, and books of verses by Chekver and Iurii Trubetskoi.

Rakhil Samoilovna Chekver (1893, Romny, Poltava province - 1957, New York), poet, publisher, wrote under the name of Irina Iassen. Since 1923 in emigration in the United States. Lived in New York. 1944 - published the first collection of poetry "Zemnoi plen." Her poems have been published in magazines and anthologies. 1924-1950 was a member of the editorial board of the magazine "Novosel'e." Compiler (along with Iu. Terapiano and V. Andreev) of the anthology "Estafeta" (1948). 1949-1957 - founder and de facto editor of the publishing house "Rifma." She collaborated with the newspapers "Novoe Russkoe Slovo" and "Russkaia Mysl'". Died in New York, buried in Bate David Cemetery.
