Description

Scope and Contents

Typescript memoirs: "Donbass" (59 p.) concerns the Civil War in south Russia; "Moi berlinskie vpechatleniia. Aprel' 1945-iiul 1946" (74 p.) with Germany at the end of and after the World War II. There is also an open letter (6 p.) by Chevdar to the leaders of the Russian-American Aid Society (Russko-Amerikanskii Soiuz Pomoshchi).

Biographical / Historical

Erast Chevdar (1888 - 1981), civil engineer, participant of the World War I, White movement in the South of Russia, social and political activist, publicist, author of memoirs and book "Svoboda dorozhe zhizni." After 1920 - in exile in Yugoslavia. In 1942-1945 served as a designing engineer at the Gottlieb Tesch firm in Berlin. After the war, moved to the USA and continued to work as an engineer. From 1951 worked in several design firms in New York. Author of memoirs and articles published in the newspaper "Novoe russkoe slovo" (New York). He was a member of the Society of Russian Engineers in the USA (1950). Information on his patronymic differ in different sources: according to one - he is Georgievich, according to others - Konstantinovich.
