Scope and content:

This collection of set design renderings is a subset of the larger collection and consists of designs for theater and opera productions in Boston, New York, Connecticut, London, and England, as well as on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The colorful renderings capture the lively approach Helen and Herbert took to set design.

The original designs are held at Sturgis Library in Barnstable Village, Massachusetts and at Columbia University in New York City.

Biographical / historical:

The Helen Pond/Herbert Senn set design collection consists of artworks, designs, plans, and other works created by Helen Pond (1924-2017) and Herbert Senn (1924-2003), related to their theatrical set designs, primarily in New York City at Columbia University, Broadway and Off-Broadway, with the Opera Company of Boston, at the Cape Playhouse on Cape Cod, and Theatre of the Sea, from 1950 to 2000. Helen and Herbert lived and worked in a renovated former church on Church Street in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod.
