Biographical / Historical

Katherine (Catherine) B. Lee was a writer and actress who worked under the professional names Kaye Brinker (the best known) or Kate Brinker. As described on "Ellery Queen: A website of deduction," Kaye was best known as the creator of a radio show called "True to Life", which ran from 1939 to 1940. Before coming to New York, she was creator of a similar radio show called "Everywoman" that was broadcast from WBBM in Chicago.

She was born Catherine Fox Brinker in Seattle, Washington on March 29, 1914, and died on November 5, 1991. She met Manfred B. Lee, co-author of the "Ellery Queen" detective novels, short stories, and anthologies, on April 1, 1942, on the set of the "Ellery Queen" radio program, where she was acting the part of Ellery's secretary, Nikki Porter. They were married on July 4, 1942.
