"B" collection comprises all the rare books that don't explicitly belong to the existing named collections

General

Before about 1979, general rare book collection was classified in the Dewey scheme preceded by "B" (e.g., B823 Sh24), see (see "B-Dewey" General Rare Book Collection, Bib ID 15277201). Items added after the switch are given Library of Congress call numbers and are shelved in a separate sequence.
